Exactly 30 years ago today, Final Fantasy VI was released on the SNES in Japan. It is one of the greatest Final Fantasy games to ever be developed, and is a personal favorite of ours on the blog.
Our retrospective post won't be ready until tomorrow.
The final game completed for 2023 is a classic game and absolutely loved playing through it and finishing it. #finalfantasyVI the game has a great villain and great story. I played the game when it first came out in the snes and the pixel remaster did a great job. #finalfantasy#ps5
This is neat. Exploring the various scripts of Final Fantasy VI (Original Japanese, Original English, GBA English, a Fan Translation, and Google Translate) side-by-side using a SNES emulator with a browser bolted on: https://legendsoflocalization.com/final-fantasy-vi/
The page presents various examples of differences with commentary, links to a (4 hour) video of playing the start of the game, and links to the (Windows) tool itself: https://legendsoflocalization.com/wanderbar/
I've been starting a new playthrough of #FinalFantasyVI using the Revised Old Style Edition mod, mostly because I missed playing the game and have been soaking up the different versions of the Veldt theme song, and absolutely loved the bit where Terra/Tina casting a spell during the chase at Figaro Castle and Locke and Edgar being shocked at the whole thing.
Not my video clip, but here's someone's recording of that part:
Absolutely love that the latest #FinalFantasy Distant Worlds album as a version the #FinalFantasyVI track "The Veldt" included with the Phantom Forest and Train tracks
I am really enjoying this playthrough of Final Fantasy 6. I am trying to be extra aware of what I am doing as I really want the platinum trophy 🥰 #finalfantasy#finalfantasyVI#ps5#videogames
So, I finally got around to making a serious start on Final Fantasy VI -- using the pixel perfect edition on PS4 -- the original on MiSTer FPGA maybe looks a little nicer (the pixel perfect edition has only one fixed CRT filter option), but having it right there on the PS4 makes it far easier to jump in and play for a little while every now and again.
(I lived through the SNES era but never owned one or had easy access during that time.)
