This year we’ve grown just six beds of field or fava beans 🫘 Five beds of Vespa field beans and one bed of Sutton Dwarf broad beans (Fava) The Sutton have already flowered and set beans so we’ll have a crop soon 😛 The Vespa are getting taller and starting to show flowers. These produce tiny beans, many more per plant🪴 and they are so tasty 😋 #Allotment#Today#GrowYourOwn#Gardening
I noticed some of the compost in a few of the herb pots was raised today. Assumed they'd been nudged accidentally or the cat had investigated. But this evening I noticed a pale yellowish lump in one and it's a mushroom! There's one in another too.
I did not plant mushrooms. Wtf? Can I eat them? How did this happen?
We really need to bring more micro farms to the food chain.
If we put all of our eggs in the same basket of conventional agriculture, when a crisis like this one happens and we have no alternative solution that is a problem.
This is why we advocate all year long to encourage people to grow food if they can do that so that we can have as many alternatives as we can to sustain the food production.
Experimenting with propagating rosemary cuttings. 10 were kept in water for 2 weeks until they started to grow roots. 10 were cut and directly potted. Both received rooting powder.
If you plant a tree every day, in a lifetime you will plant a forest.
Our habits make us, #composting is a very rewarding habit, if you do it every day, in a matter of years you will be able to fix your topsoil, #GrowYourOwn plants, and create abundance.
You will also do your part in putting the carbon back into the #soil and help balance the #climate.
Greenhouse changes 😎 One of the reasons we accepted this allotment a few years ago was the greenhouse 🤔 We knew that we could fix the issues with the structure and state of the plot 🫣 Here a a couple of before and after images #Allotment#Gardening#GrowYourOwn#Today
Tomato time 🍅 We have planted the vine tomatoes this morning 🌅 6 Honey Comb and 11 Black Moon. Both exhausting and exciting 😎 Just 8 Summerlast bush tomatoes left to plant 👍 We have also planted marigolds and basil in front of the watering pots 😎#Allotment#Today#GrowYourOwn#Gardening
@ScotHomestead@gardening. The garden vegetable starts are looking to get in the garden soil here too. We’ve had a stretch of wet weather and that is great for the planet. It’s been too wet for proper planting. The soil has been a sticky mess when compacted around the starts. #growyourown, #minnesota, #nodig.
Anyone know if there's a fungicide I can use on my young apple tree? It's showing signs of verticillium wilt (it's been very wet here all winter and spring). Or is my best bet to take it out and replace it? #Gardening#GrowYourOwn
This year we’re following a YouTuber called Chilli Chump and his recommendations for soil preparation when planting chillies 🌶️ and peppers 🫑 in pots. Here’s hoping for success 👍 For every 10 parts of compost add 1 part of vermiculite,1 part of perlite, 1/2 a part of fish blood & bone, 1/10th of epsom salts and 1/100th of mycorrhizal fungi 😎 The planting pots will be 11 litre pots, a little larger than the pots that he uses but that’s what we have here❗️ #Allotment#Today#GrowYourOwn#Gardening
Flower time this morning 🌅 Moved a tray of twelve lupins outside 🤓 and started to collect everything needed to pot up a floribunda red rose called eternity 🌹 #Allotment#Today#GrowYourOwn#Gardening
We’re off into the wild and warm weather 🌦️ So down to the plot came the cucumber 🥒 plants and out came the squash and courgettes to harden off 🤞#Allotment#Today#GrowYourOwn#Gardening
Got garden weather?
39 and rain near Redmond WA this morning.
Mini greenhouse has several kinds of onions grown from seed and ready to transplant, some carrots, lettuce, and two bell pepper plants. Spinach and radishes have already been harvested and those areas will be replanted with carrots, radish and onions. I am curious if I can get Walla Walla onions to mature planting as late as May 1.
The pic with the raised bed has Davidor Shallots on the left and Walla Walla onions on the right. The Wallas were planted last fall and overwintered in the greenhouse. In the background are strawberries, garlic and early potatoes. #PNW#Gardens#Gardening#GrowYourOwn
