New (used) iPhone (14), so in comparison to my former iPhone XS Max my screenshots do look different now. Apart from that I‘m happy to have a newer iPhone now – the old one was getting really slow with some of the newer and more demanding apps. Snow and ice are gone, running was easy, but I was tired after working all through yesterday. Nevertheless, Patrick Rothfuss made me enjoy the time.

Seit…

Wow the app / website is shockingly bad!

Haven’t got an email receipt but fortunately have got a screenshot of the QR code. Won’t allow sign ups. Fails with & doesn’t add to apple wallet. Any proper cross-platform testing ever happened?

It's so bad that iFixit has dropped its repairability score for the from a 7 ("recommend") to a 4 (do not recommend):

Parts-pairing is bullshit, and Apple are scum for using it, but they're hardly unique. Parts-pairing is at the core of the fuckery of companies, who use it to fence out third-party ink, so they can charge $9,600/gallon for ink that pennies to make:

Hello iPhone users,

Did you know the new iPhone 15 uses USB 2?

That's right. —With USB 4 just around the corner, and with USB 3 being mainstream, Apple has chosen to provide you with the cheapest and slowest USB ports they could use for your new iPhone.

Being held 1-2 generations behind everyone else does not seem fair. Does it?

It is not just the slower data transfer, that is concerning. Did you know USB 2 also charges slower too? Much slow.

@Lucas

Some of the older models from a few years ago and some of the cheaper, lower end burner phones have USB 2.

You're paying Apple $800 for their latest, newest 2023 model. That's a big difference to settle for older hardware, slower speeds, with slow charging times.

@Lucas

I think you underestimate how people value their time.

I think people's time is important to them. I know my time is important to me, and I doubt I know anyone who does not value their time.

Paying a premium to downgrade your charging time and waste more of your valued time waiting for your phone to charge, does not seem like a worthwhile investment.

@hperrin @Lucas

I use a Google Pixel 7 and most everyone I know jumped onto Samsung. We receive updates regularly and without slowing down our devices.

However, people who purchase low budget phones know what they are buying into.

But Apple is supposedly not a low-budget phone, yet odd that they are now supplying low budget hardware in their latest model.

iPhone 15 = USB 2

That's right.

Apple put the slowest, cheapest, USB's in their newest phones.

This is why you should choose Android. Our phones are not only affordable, but we have had USB 3 for years now.

Linux_Is_Best,
@Linux_Is_Best@mastodon.social avatar

@Kebablog USB 2 also charges much slower.

I suppose if you have time to waste and can wait for your phone to charge slower than mine, it shouldn't be a problem.
