Phoenix Shot Tower, Baltimore, Maryland. September, 1980. The tallest building in the U.S. when it was built in 1928, the shot tower manufactured musket shot by dropping molten lead through a mesh at the top into a tank of cold water at the bottom.
Touring Retsof Salt Mine, Retsof, New York. April 1958. Retsof was the largest salt mine in North America prior to its collapse (and water inundation) in March 1994.
