People are tweeting about LARPs in the context of the flop of a Star Wars immersive experience ($3,000 for meh?), and I'd like to point out the vast majority of both Nordic and American LARPs take place in original settings, not fanfic. The medium's strength is not rolling with a specific setting like Star Wars but combining different things, to the point that it became an Intercon trope by the 2010s that everything was a weird mashup (a LARP called Slash had PCs from like 12 different canons).
But I totally get the logistical issues like costumes for single events, or getting enough players.
My personal compromise for fantasy is larps with thematic camps (Warhammer, Orcs, Elves, High Medieval, Vikings,...). Large consistent groups are impressive.
Y'all. The most petty political move happened today at my #vampirethemasquerade#LARP, and I'm technically the reason why it happened.
Context first: I play an Anarch that works at a radio station in a Camarilla domain of the city controlled by an elder Toreador. Prior to the Toreador's acquisition of the domain, my character struck a deal with one of the local Cam Lasombra to ensure the station would be protected if things ever went to hell, and they could continue their work.
Somebody should totally make a sudden zoom call with me now!
I want to buy a suit of armour for my LARP character and it got delivered today. Now I have to try if it fits well and isn't too uncomfortable. So I'll be wearing it a while working in home office today.
I'm your friendly neighborhood machine learning knight now.
When I run into #wayfinder people and groups it's always a bit of a culture shock coming from… the rest of the European and North American #LARP scenes.
They are their own thing, doing their own thing, and there's very little crossover with the rest of the LARP world.
Which is fine, but it does create some weird culture shock moments (both directions), and I'm struck by it every time I see it in action.
2051: SolarPunk Odyssey As ecological succession unfolds, a solarpunk-ish community travels in search of a new place to live.
On February 29, 2024, we submitted a project to the Chaos Computer Club competition for a grant for an artistic work depicting a utopian vision of a community in times of chaos.
For obvious reasons, we believe that TePeWu is creating and realizing just such a vision. So we asked ourselves what might be happening to our community in 2051 - and we intend to provide the answer in art form. You can see details of our project here: tepewu.pl/en/2024/03/2051-sola…
Another game I'm working on is also a thematic trilogy using the same rules; this time a trio of interrelated sixty-minute space larps. Each has four characters and a fixed diegetic 60 minute play window. You have a couple of Big Decisions to make and then you're done, and the outcome will inform the next game if you want to play some more. #larp
It’s a great local convention for all sorts of gaming, they’re on the rebuild post-covid, but it’s always been a great event, lots of fun. Give it a shot! February 22-25th. #NJ#NewJersey#games#gameconvention
I think it is easy as experienced roleplayers and larpers to forget that one of the roles of mechanics is to tell players "what is possible."
When I was a magical professor one of the things I talked about was that my role in the fiction was to provide permission. That's one of the major roles of mechanics: to provide permission without having to ask someone.
The rules aren't there to limit you, they are there to enable you.
As experienced players it can be easy to forget that.
Here’s the board games I brought over for a hangout/#LARP plot meeting yesterday. Mostly we had a meeting and then played some #Munchkin but it was a fun time.
Happy #NewYearsEve~ if you’re going out somewhere tonight please have a plan to get home safely~
I know we don’t know one another that well, but I want to hear all about your new adventures in the New Year
I've been thinking about gamifying the process of making new friends in my city. Kind of like a #LARP but your character is just yourself, and you earn points for showing up to small group events. Extra points for helping organize gatherings and coming up with creative ideas for people to get to know each other better.
...I've been thinking about this for over a year, maybe someday I'll have enough energy to actually start it.
This #lady was the main act in a #funny#online "scandal" some weeks ago (?) bc she is some famous bigshot in the #tradwife online #community and it got 'leaked' that she is married to a pretty high up #millonaire guy, and thats why she can live by making videos of her making all kinds of foods from scratch in vintage and original #expensive ass old kitchen.
But well, nothing more trad than the rich wife of a rich guy being able to be a stay at home mom and to #larp as a #farmer. Even old time #royalty liked to do that from time to time.
Ça n'a aucune importance.
