mattit,

Hoping to make the list with my first patch which I've just confirmed to be fully operational!

Was looking forward to a smoother all- paper writing workflow with @zotero and @libreoffice, am now also looking forward to getting some cool stickers 😎

mattit,

@libreoffice @zotero haha my translation made it sound like a new feature, it’s two lines & some refactoring to fix an ancient bug inherited from - though imo being able to fix such annoyances (or pay a random non-employee dev to do so on your behalf) is a really cool property of projects like . Beats hopelessly bashing my head against the wall while trying to work around the bugs and limitations of a certain proprietary office suite…

Tried the dark mode in 7.5 already? Here's what it looks like! (It should be enabled automatically depending on your system theme, but you can also toggle it on/off via Tools > Options > View...) Thanks to @CzuloOliver for the screenshot 😊

Office Software Phone App and An Important PSA on Open Source Office Software

So, today, I found out something extremely interesting: there's a free and open source Android and iOS office app! It's from Collabora office and you can read more about it from here:

Collabora Office Android and iOS app
https://www.collaboraoffice.com/collabora-office-android-ios-release-notes/

Also, on desktop computers I use LibreOffice, which works very well for me, but recently found out that OpenOffice, the software it was forked from, despite receiving regular updates from the Apache Foundation, has been an essentially dead project for nearly a decade. The Tumblr thread below explains what happened in more detail:

https://www.tumblr.com/penrosesun/716612136959426560/github-apacheopenoffice-apache-openoffice?source=share

Basically, if you've found that OpenOffice doesn't adequately serve your office software needs but haven't tried LibreOffice, you may want to give LibreOffice a try since it's way better now than it's predecessor is.

Want a new feature in LibreOffice? @tdforg – the non-profit entity behind the suite – is looking to create tenders for some improvements. Let us know what things the software needs: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2023/05/12/tender-ideas-and-proposals-to-improve-libreoffice/

patrickatpaddy,

@libreoffice @tdforg I find the blog post quite confusing … But my main feature wish for LibreOffice would be a one click update tool! No noob understands how to update LO for macOS or Windows. And I think it’s really and it‘s been missing for a long time. If you really want to win over these users from other office suits it‘s essential.

Is there a way to use variables in Draw?

Say I have a bunch of geometric shapes and I want their size to be controlled by a variable I can change later?

Microsoft Excel asked me for a review, and whether I would recommend it to a friend. Here's my paraphrased response:

"Everyone already knows about it, why would I need to?

Anyways I usually recommend LibreOffice Calc as a free alternative to the price gouging of O365. Sorry."
