I've a long list of chores for the weekend, one of which is to rescue a failed #raspberryPi server hosting #mosquitto.
It's an very old RPi 1B I'd managed to boot from an also-old 2TB NAS hard drive in an ext housing. Most things suggested it wasn't possible w old 1B - but it had been solid for 4 months until Tuesday. Prev it'd last a max of 2months on an SDcard.
I figured it was a wacky tenuous setup to begin with so failure wasn't a surprise…
As a bit of a #homeAssistant project, I noticed my old #RaspberryPi is quite near my 3D printer (basement) and it just runs a #Mosquitto#mqtt server. It has more capacity than that, so I attached an old usb camera, loaded #nginx and wrote some #Python to take a pic of the printer and stuff it into both a web page and a home assistant dashboard.
Anyone got any experience with #Zigbee ? Is there anything I should know when deciding between #Zigbee2MQTT and #ZHA ? Are they both fine, or are there compatibility concerns, etc?
I'm just now backing up #HomeAssistant and running the updates in preparation for moving its host #RPi 4B power source.
It feels like one of those sliding puzzle things where I'm doing this so I can then move an old laptop now running w/ #PuppyLinux, so I can then re-install my older RPi 1B which now boots from an old #NAS harddrive, so I can re-install #Mosquitto, so I can get my #MQTT msgs propagating again, so I can see #Mastodon toots of door open/close events.
A day wedging #Linux into some awkward places. A hammer and a prybar seem helpful in this very Friday-ish endeavour.
An old 2008 Macbook wouldn't let me partition the disk for a dual boot, so I've given up and am blowing it all away for a Mint install… if it will boot from the USB stick I'm imaging just now.
Simultaneously I have an old RPi 1B which ran #Mosquitto okay for a few months on SDcard, but lost the file system after that so I'm trying to get it to boot off an old used NAS disk.
@ralight I'll be missing #oshcamp sadly, but I may "need" a #mosquitto pin. Because, for reasons that are completely important. So I shall be on the lookout for a store option.
Parce que j'aime bien avoir la conso dans Home Assistant, mais je préfère la souplesse de #Grafana pour la visualisation de l'historique, et avoir la donnée disponible dans mes dashboards 🙂
