Tried out shadow.tech for cloud PC & PCVR gaming while I'm travelling.

It worked reasonably well playing (No Man's Sky) in , but I wasn't able to multiplayer Age of Mythology across our home LAN network. To first order, this is because the cloud PC isn't on our LAN, but I connected it to our other computer via "tailscale" which should have mimicked them being on the same network. I remain rather baffled as to why that didn't work... 🤔

I'm playing #NMS in #Steam #VR on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and... it is struggling!

It's running on a Razer Blade laptop I bought second hand to experience with PCVR and computer graphics, but I'm still a Mac user for work. This makes me reluctant to buy a powerful new PC as it feels rather excessive just for gaming... uh, on this particular game...!

I was thinking of getting an eGPU, but the cost is also pretty high once you throw in a Razer Core X or similar casing 🤔 Thoughts?

I made it to the "Anomaly" in No Man's Sky ! With my GPU struggling, I tried out PlutoSphere, which lets you run PC games on a cloud gaming computer.

But disaster struck!

Once my tokens for PlutoSphere were exhausted, the machine automatically shutdown and booted me out. This was expected BUT I assumed the save would be automatically uploaded to the cloud. It was not 😱 . Apparently, upload timing is erratic, so you have to manually push the upload when using PlutoSphere. SIGH.

(In case anyone was wondering what I did about this loss of game data: I sucked it up and repeated the--fortunately just 1 hour--session on my struggling but brave laptop. But randomises basically... everything... so I ended up having to complete my quest on a way rougher planet where I was hunted down by evil senitels, which was difficult as I am NEW and WEAK. But. Success. Here is a image of my friend lounging on my spacecraft's wing. I took off and he fell off 🤣)

I've fallen into "No Man's Sky"! I made it to the space station, and have selected an avatar that truly resembles what I look like... on the inside.

I now have a glowing ball for a head, which seems to be held in place by rotating electromagnets. Magnificent!

#NMS was created for PC but the #VR adaption (which I'm playing) is not at all bad. It's really... quite... addictive. I played for 4 hours and I'm eying my battery and wondering if I could hop on for a few minutes... before... bed...

Visited the base of a friend in No Man's Sky in who has been playing for a number of year years. The depth of the game is slightly overwhelming! This base has everything from greenhouses, generators and storage lockers, and piping to bring raw materials down from the mountainside. And a animated dance floor. And jellyfish bar staff. And he has a freighter full of ships.

Visiting friends in a space setting in this way does really remind me of the book, "Ready Player One"!

We set off to find a new planet to build neighbouring bases in #NMS. No Man's Sky actually generates planets procedurally, giving a near limitless number of permutations. A large number were thus summarily dismissed due to not really feeling the grass colour...

As I'm a newbie with poor equipment and poorer shooting skills (I will note that's a bit of an issue in #VR), my more understandable vote was for a planet low in hazards such as radiation, storms and rampaging sentinels.

Maybe... here!

Planet at night where you can see the planet rings in the sky.

I've built a new base... in a cave. Cool idea? Or terrible? I am slightly annoyed by the lack to flat surfaces to place things nicely. #NMS #VR

My No Man's Sky #NMS flying skills in #VR have lacked... something.... a lot.

But. This. Was one hell of a precise landing.

🚀 I made it just in time and got my first S-Class ship! - Also my first real starship after the starter shipwreck. Just finished the Cartographer Redux event in No Man's Sky and really enjoyed it 🤩

The expedition was like a long and rewarding tutorial mission, I have learned a lot. I tried the game a few years ago but bounced off for some reason. Gave it another try and now I can't stop exploring. Such a beautiful game.

"Discover. Harvest. Know."

A large yellow symbol in the middle of the screen marks the achievement "Expedition complete" Expedition #3 Redux Cartographers - Reward: Golden Vector starship.

I bought No Man's Sky several years ago (not at release), but never got into it beyond playing a few hours. I'm not sure why, but this week I decided to give it another go, it's a bit overwhelming with how much stuff there is in the game, but I'm having fun. A few YouTube videos have helped a bit. Currently I'm just doing what I feel like, learning slowly and not very focused.
Plan to waste too many hours this weekend in the game.

I can't express how beautiful was going back to No Man's Sky with the new update. I explored the galaxy some more, got through the quests I left behind long time ago and finally got myself a new fresh quest line to discover the Autophage faction.

See you in space adventurer

As I just started scanning issue 17 of Total! Magazine, this video came up on my Youtube feed:

The Story of JRPG's in the UK BEFORE FFVII: Super Play Magazine by Kim Justice

A great video focussing on the European JRPG scene, and the lack thereof at times, where she looks lovingly back on Super Play and their championing of the genre.

Burned through PlayStations playing FFVII.
Never had a Nintendo, only MasterSystem/Megadrives. No, tell a lie, I had an N64 for about a month, 'till I traded it for a Dreamcast.
FFVII sucks on PC.
