We watched this young Laughing Kookaburra for a while, hoping for a shot with some exciting prey. It swooped down from this hunting spot a few times, but for the most part I think it got to eat mud and bark (as evidenced by the beak-tip decorations)
The young birds have entirely black beaks, and what would be black features on the adult's face are brown
Hopefully it had better luck later, without our audience
Could hear the lorikeets in the upper branches when i stopped to take some pics of the native fig tree at ground level. Was a lovely surprise to find one this close - an arm's length maybe - happily snacking away.
Comb-crested Jacana navigating the waterlilies carrying chicks under his wings. There are 3 chicks in this brood, so either one is out independently, or has its legs pulled up out of sight
