I have a lot of development hopes for fedi software and services, but my top one, by far, is a client that would combine @pinafore's speedy, offline-friendly LocalStorage based toot cache and minimal DOM memory use with @phanpy's awesome UI innovation.

Hallo, liebes

Hallo, guten Morgen liebes

Anybody else having issues with @pinafore not working properly? For the past couple days I regularly end up with empty pages or just the spinning loading symbol.
As Pinafore is no longer being developed, I'm also open to recommendations for an alternative for a desktop web client (currently trying @sengi_app and @elk )

Screenshot of the notifications tab of Pinafore. The content area is all empty

Does anyone know of lightweight web frontends for or or whatever they're calling themselves now? Kinda like for . It just feels so atrociously heavy here on Firefox Android.

Going through hundreds of responses to "why did you leave Mastodon/fedi?" and so, so many of them are about feelings—feeling lonely, confused, unwelcome, anxious.

I'll post publicly once I have everything cleaned up and summarized, but oooof. I really hope fedi folks (and others) can accept this stuff as valuable input.

deltatux,

@jsit @kissane agreed, the default Mastodon interface is not great in terms of UX (personally like it more than Akkoma) but that being said, there are 3rd party interfaces like & that can make the experience better for many.

Then there are also other implementation that do a better job with more features than Mastodon like & , the latter has a much better UI out of the box.

that @semaphore (fork and continuation of Pinafore) can can support more than one account in the same browser. Check out a running example here:
https://semaphore.social

Also that it may be able to function as a web app for Friendica, as well as Mastodon. I'm having a few teething problems, but I'm hoping that I can now flip over to my Friendica account to post long rants, and then flip back to my Mastodon account to boost them 😀

Sad to see put out to pasture. Thanks for all your work on this over the years @nolan. Worth remembering...

"I also think that Pinafore accomplished many of the goals I had in mind when I originally wrote it. At the time, Mastodon only had a multi-column UI, which many users found overwhelming and confusing. Pinafore demonstrated that a single-column layout could be a viable alternative, and since then, Mastodon has defaulted to a single-column layout."

Implementing web push API seems kinda more complicated than I thought 😅 I don't even remember handling so much when implementing push notifications on React Native.

TIL, there'll be no way to have push notifications for multiple server accounts due to browser limitations:

Did any of the forks gain traction?

semaphore, to fediverse

Hello world!

Introducing Semaphore an accessible, simple and fast web client for Mastodon.

Semaphore continues the work of @nolan 's @pinafore, and will prioritise accessibility, continuing Pinafore's track record of integrating improvements from disabled contributors.

Follow this account if you'd like to keep up-to-date with releases and news.

: do apps like and support the "local-only post" feature offered by forks like and ?

@joshuaCrewe It works as good as any other standalone frontend that talks to Mastodon-like APIs, like for example. You can try it out at https://fe.soapbox.pub . It's just that is still missing some endpoints for bookmarks, tags or muting which can cause minor issues (it's still alpha).
