My home state in southern Brazil is suffering with heavy rains that are causing floods, deaths and destruction.
My city, Porto Alegre, is flooded right now. The river is at its highest level ever, surpassing the flood of 1941. (Last boost has a video.)
I live close to the river. It's been raining for the whole week. The flood has reached my street tonight. I'm fine, and I have water, power and internet, but I expect to the stranded in my apartment for the next couple of days.

earlier today the city govt issued an evacuation alert for both my area (Menino Deus) and the one where I way staying at a friends place to work (Cidade Baixa). I've been checking on my street to make sure my cats wouldn't get stranded, so when I got the alert I had to rush back to pick them up. All went well, but I shouldn't have left it to the last minute—we foolishly always hope for the best.

Começa na terça-feira, 16 de janeiro, a exposição SINTA-SE EM GAZA, no Clube de Cultura (Ramiro Barcelos, 1.853, Porto Alegre), iniciativa do jornal GRIFO e da GRAFAR, entidade que congrega artistas gráficos do Rio Grande do Sul. São 50 cartuns sobre a guerra na Faixa de Gaza e sua relação com a geopolítica internacional, além de frases publicadas na seção ENTREVERO do jornal.
Entre os 20 cartunistas estão os gaúchos Edgar Vasques, Santiago, Hals, Lu Vieira, o carioca Miguel Paiva e material enviado da China, Turquia, Argentina, Irã e Cuba. “É o compromisso dos grifonianos contra o genocídio em andamento e a defesa do estado palestino”, diz Celso Schröder, um dos editores do GRIFO.
Um debate às 19h abre a exposição que termina dia 29 de fevereiro e tem apoio da Associação Cultural José Martí do RS, do Clube de Cultura e Fepal (Federação Árabe Palestina do Brasil), e curadoria de Marco Schuster
