The situation in Germany's region right now is giving me a strong deja vu from three years ago, when another hilly area experienced unusually heavy rainfall that lead to devastating floods. I really hope we don't see the same kind of disaster happen as we did in the Ahrtal 2021. At least residents and emergency services should be sensitized to what could happen.

I am not sure whether people elsewhere habe really grasped just how devastating the recent i. were.

By the latest count, devastating torrential rains, floods and landslides in Kenya have killed at least 228 people since March and displaced nearly 200,000 people.

Who are on the frontlines of the

  • those living in places that are close to human and animal thermal limits
  • those living near rivers and ice
  • those living near coastlines.

As we continue to heat the risks are going to rise exponentially on the front lines, and it’s happening already at +1.3° of heating.

We can’t avoid 1.5° which is now imminent. Climate chaos awaits.

Both #floods and #drought.
Pass my soapbox. In spite of certain badly-worded commentaries, this planet has no shortage of water. We have shortage of potable water and water for irrigation, and water being inconveniently placed. The first can be addressed by technologies old and new, if the political will were applied. The second makes me cross. Water is vital; petroleum is merely useful - so why do petroleum pipelines cross continents but we don't transport water?
