Republicans in Tennessee are out of their fucking minds. What kind of insanity is this?
The solution to school shootings isn’t to arm teachers!
America is a shit show beyond all logic. The unfathomable has become reality here. Nationalists like to say “these colors never run.” But they do. The color red plentifully runs through our streets.
John Pavlovitz rightly compares the (selective) outrage many Republicans are now expressing at Kristi Noem's braggadocious story about shooting a dog and a goat with the meh, thoughts-and-prayers response of these same folks to yet another school shooting.
"The cognitive dissonance required to rightly rail against the assassination of a puppy, while simultaneously ignoring or explaining away the nearly daily mass shootings of mothers, spouses, brothers, children, and best friends here is a sick marvel to behold."
@QasimRashid
Here in #Texas, you no longer need a license or training to own a gun. 😒
So, evidently, there is NO ONE they consider "too immature" or "too reckless" to possess a firearm.
Ergo, to solve the problem of #SchoolShootings, we should simply issue a handgun to every Kindergartner with their #2 pencil on their first day of school. #GunCulture
#MAGA#Republican#House#Speaker#MikeJohnson claimed that when there is no *creator, “then that means that man gets to make all the decisions,” & the infiltration of this philosophy into govt & #schools has taught “a generation of Americans that there really isn’t any God, & there really isn’t any right & wrong.”
In 2015, #Johnson, then a #Louisiana#lawyer fighting for increased abortion restrictions, told NYmag, “many women use abortion as a form of #BirthControl*, you know, in certain segments of society**….When you break up the nuclear family, …tell a generation of people that life has no value, no meaning, that it’s expendable, then you wind up w/ school shooters.”
How would #school be different in America if the #secondamendmemt read like this? “A well regulated Mind, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to access a free and empowering education, shall not be infringed.” #guns#schoolshootings@edutooter@edutooters#education#teaching
“Proposed Texas Law Wants to Make School Children 'Battlefield' Ready
In response to school shootings, a new bill in Texas would require public schools to install "bleeding stations" and train kids as young as third grade in trauma care.”
@TonyStark@fsinn School children learning triage is nothing according to #gop compared to the #trauma of schoolchildren forced to wear masks during a #pandemic.
Here's a #map of #schoolShootings in the #USA since 1980. No state is immune. Sad that I will need to automate this import from #wilkipedia to keep it current.
