It's Friday!

Put on a tropical screen saver, mix yourself the umbrella drink of choice (I'm a big Mai Tai boy myself) and get in the mood with Sheila E's new album. I dare you to sit still 💃 🕺

Have a good one all!

has still got it.

Awful picture quality, legendary performance by Prince and Sheila E. , they clearly had a lot of fun 😃 , only in the 80s they could go on for 10 minutes in one song.

I'm starting 2023 by posting , adding to this thread one each day. These are the albums that made me who I am (for better or worse). That should last most of the year! I'm also updating the art, using techniques I've learned and developed since I began this series in 2009.

I have no idea who else needs this post, but can I recommend this lovely instrument making film from guys in . (English with that Spanish accent sounds great.) It's very well made, really good editing, clever shots & sound design, full of little surprises and personality. It's also exactly the kind of useless but fun knowledge that my brain loves to hoover up.

ArtBear,

Sheila E. is one of the world's premier drummers, let alone when you consider how much of it she has played in high heels etc in the Prince years and beyond.

This is a lovely video explaining how her drumming style started developing backwards and how that relates to her father, legendary percussionist with Santana & Azteca.

ArtBear,

Sheila E. drum solos were immense, like this, but on top you felt the rhythm and the crowd, seeing Prince live.

ArtBear,

This is a nicely shot segment, interesting camera angles and studio not live gig lighting, so you can see better.

Sheila E.

Being an awesome musician (and a bit of a boundary pusher / stereotype buster / rolemodel too).
