In July 1999, someone stole a trailer jammed with Sonic Youth gear out of a Ramada Inn parking lot. Lee Ranaldo immediately sent an email that was reposted to alt.music.sonic-youth:

> Please no pranks, all, this is really serious--
> all the gear we've used to write our last few LPs
> worth of stuff, instruments used for songs old
> and new which if truly lost will mean those songs
> will be lost forever.

I am not diggin' today's #1001albums and even though I listened to this kind of music 15-20 years ago, I never got into #SonicYouth no matter how hard I tried.

Sonic Youth vocalist Kim Gordon drops her second solo album, "The Collective," today. For Interview magazine, she talked to Chloë Sevigny, who appeared in the 1992 "Sugar Kane" video, about the pressures of being a fashion icon, how to navigate the entertainment industry as women, and why anyone who's cool is sexy.

- – Daydream Nation (1988). Maybe the greatest LP to emerge from the American underground during the 1980s, D-Nation is to alternative rock what Revolver was to pop and Fragile was to prog. Friends scoff when I point out the prog elements I hear in Daydream Nation – yet there truly is something progressive in the way furious improvisations morph into songs of dazzling complexity. The finale is a 14-minute epic called "Trilogy." I rest my case.

- – Sister (1987). It feels odd calling an album so cacophonous "refined," but there are certain refinements over earlier work in the way Sonic Youth presents a fractured sort of melodicism on "Schizophrenia" and "Stereo Sanctity." "Beauty Lies in the Eye" has that cosmic airport feel the band would perfect on Daydream Nation, while "Pacific Coast Highway" varies its textures from terrifying to almost pretty. Noise rock never sounded so ambitious.

As a teen I listened to a ton of Sonic Youth. They were my best friend's favorite band, too. I saw em at Lollapalooza '95- 🤯 by '95 they already had a bunch of 80s albums (ok, not my favorites) Dirty in '92 (classic), Experimental Jet Set in '94 (my fave?) & did songs from '95's great Washing Machine too.

I think my favorite SY song is this one, "Starfield Road" - this show is from '96.

Shame about Thurston and Kim splitting up. But this is peak SY.

NOTE: I belong to the school of Sonic Youth fans, but I’d rather hear this song or “Tom Violence” instead of “Expressway To Your Skull.”

As Sonic Life makes clear, Moore’s path in life seemed set in stone from early on. The first chapter is called Epiphany and begins in the summer of 1963, when Moore was just five and his older brother, Gene, played him a mysterious vinyl single by the Kingsmen.

Actually, you know ...

Sonic Youth went a bit shit and dreary by the late 90s.

Puoliso lähti koiran kanssa trimmaajatutustumiseen. Itse nautiskelen musiikista, tällä kertaa soimassa Sonic Youth.
