Wife has been thrifting again.

I had thought that most of the content was animated cartoons or kids' fare, but there was a surprising number of 70s sci-fi movie discs. It is neat how this nearly 100-year-old technology still does 3D so incredibly well.

How could you mimic that effect in the browser? A quick animated gif strobing between the left and right images? Would that work?

Put the disc in the slot at the top, press the lever on the right side, and look through the lenses: you'll see the first of seven views. Press the lever again to see the next image. The description of what each slide shows is printed on the disc, and is visible through an opening above and between the lenses. For more information, read the included 16-page booklet.

This is what vintage virtual reality looked like.

https://youtu.be/1JxAv3-QOzc

It was analog. I didn't use a computer. It was called the View-Master.

This (the View-Master) was among my childhood toys in the 1970s and 1980s.

Although I think they were around as early as the late 1930s.

: Still awesome after all these years. The red model os the one I got as a kid, while the others are models from the fifties that I used to collect. One of them even has the notes of the kid that originally owned it. Many times I have tried to imagine how his childhood would have been like.

I just got these Hovkrats boxes from and plan to stuff them full of bags with . They would probably work with many as well @philately

@jarulf collecting things is fun. I wanted to start collecting reels but then I had to move internationally once again and slipped in to the state of wanting to own nothing but a toothbrush and a towel because moving is so stressful. Now I'm in Germany and, well, not a lot of Viewmaster reels to be found here. But I still might. Have fun with your collection!

What a treasure! I've been a fan of since I got my first in the late 1960s. I later bought a FujiFilm Finepix and have been having fun with it ever since. I think the like the one you've shown is still the best way to view 3D pictures. I made an app for manipulating digital stereo images and a paint.net template to make .

Apparently reels exist! They were made in 1985 by Tomy as a Japan-only release.

T-1 focused on General Scenes, T-2 for , & T-3 on . Given eBay prices, I’ll stick with appreciating the packaging. 😛
