Mom was 26 yrs old & I was 8 yrs old. In front of BC legislature. Wearing my fave red ruffle neck sweater vest, wide leg jeans; Mom let me wear her red lipstick that day. I'm unhappy about my mismatched Frankenstein orthotic boot - ppl used to stare at/make fun of them/me. It took years for me to be able to wear regular, matching boots.

Mom was 29 yrs old, brother Jerry was 8 yrs old. In a cyclo, at the #Singapore exhibition. Our very first family holidays trip, a ferry ride over. We stayed in a motel & had fancy dimsum for first times on this short trip. We had lots of fun at Expo86. The monorail rides were my fave.

1978 - Me, my brothers & cousins at #Bidong Island, #Malaysia#RefugeesCamp before we were transferred to #Galang refugees camp in Indonesia, in early 1979. One cousin, Bill, was born at Indonesian camp & was in my Aunt's belly at time this photo was taken.
If your free #Jewish#birthright to #Israel tour & free holiday in #MiddleEast didn't allow you any access to #Gaza , #WestBank or #Muslim communities & you were totally OK with accepting the govt reasons for blocking access & you've never done your own research on why - beyond what #IDF & Israel govt tells you - you have accepted #indoctrination & OK staying blind while more #Palestinians are murdered, daily.

I still remember the 2 refugees camps that my family lived at, after fleeing Vietnam. I only have strong memories of 2nd Indonesian one because our family was only at 1st Malaysian one for a short time before we were moved to the Indonesian refugees camp. I want to go & pay respects to an Uncle who died & is buried there. My cousin, Bill, was born in field hospital at Palang refugee camp.

My family are #WarSurvivors . My parents never knew what no war felt like until we came to Canada as war refugees - they lived through wars for their whole lives til we fled. I was conceived in a bomb shelter. Born while active shelling was happening.
No one really wants to flee only homes they ever knew with only basic supplies. As war survivors, we never wanted revenge. We wanted peace. We wanted safety to live simple daily life. As victims of violent war, we only wanted the violence to end.
