A team of European scientists have published the most detailed geologic map of Oxia Planum – the landing site for ESA’s Rosalind Franklin rover on Mars. This thorough look at the #geography and geological history of the area will help the rover scout the once water-rich terrain, in the search for signs of past and present life.
Two weeks ago we published a subscriber update to our overview #map of territorial administration in #Israel/#Palestine, with detailed timeline of events since December.
The map is still basically correct today, pending possible Israeli offensive on #Rafah.
“Britain’s #housing offers the worst value for money of any advanced economy, combining high prices with old, cramped, poorly insulated buildings and long commutes…” 🏚️😪
I'm too familiar with our awful housing, but was surprised to learn that we have less floorspace than not only other Western European nations, but also Japan and central NYC 🤯
Crazy about cherry blossoms in Seattle? Also crazy about maps?
Seattle geographer Nat Henry has mapped the data about trees in the genus Prunus (which include cherrys, plums, and other flowering and non-flowering trees) from five data sources and made this great map of public access trees.

It occurs to me that, since the demise of Twitter and the half-hearted move to Mastodon, most of my communication on social media is only with people I know. My brain is currently actively calculating if this is a good or a bad thing.
I do miss old Science Twitter, however. Is that still a thing here or elsewhere in another form? Is everyone partying without me? Leads welcomed. #Science#SciComm
I wonder what land mass (counting all contiguous land up to the ocean" has the highest ratio of peak height to surface area. I would venture a guess maybe one of the hawaiian islands.

Added bonus if there is an intersection with #leftist, especially #communist critique.

Happy birthday to Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594) renown Flemish cartographer.
What made Mercator a great #cartographer, was in fact his abilities as a #mathematician -and like those of us scientists who feel compelled also to create art he was wasn't hindered by his immense ability as an engraver. He produced beautiful world maps (a version of which is depicted in this print), globes, 🧵1/n
