Lunachicks - “Sugar Luv” EP

Double 7” gatefold (1989)
Original UK pressing on Blast First Records (Import)

Working at an independent record store allowed me to order imports like this one. Pretty sure I heard “Jan Brady” on the radio and immediately wanted to get this disc.

Turns out my favorite track is their cover of “Get Off The Road”. I played the hell out of this on my radio show.

Also got to meet these crazy chicks when they toured with L7 and Fugazi in ‘92.

Unfolded album cover. Yellow back ground with name of each band member in red text, just below their picture
Back cover art shows a monster character playing guitar. Pink lettering shows the song titles

The first punk festival in the GDR took place 41 years ago today. The festival was held in the Christusgemeinde church in Halle/Saale. At the time, punks had to be wary of the Stasi and the police apparatus and could only live out their freedom on church grounds. The first generation did a lot for the freedom of young people in the GDR. Thank you.

This would have been quite the bill if the show ever happened. Hard to believe it was actually booked. Then again, GG probably would have fit in with some of the Oaks crew. https://www.ebay.com/itm/115920611311?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=yC3-BlA7RRa&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=HGaoN8GqSZy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

1979 was also a great year for punk rock, post-punk or ska releases.

I put my favorite of the year in the middle.
