#Apple operates with much smaller teams than you think. Productive engineers plus focusing on the right features lets them deliver products that are competitive in the real world against much bigger teams.
Apple will also (almost?) never admit that they didn’t do something because the teams didn’t have enough time. Marketing wants to preserve the magic smoke.
So the #PWA decision is actually not that hard to imagine as an ex-insider.
Things like #Apple removing #PWA support and artificially slowing down the speed of their USB-C port, as well as the fact that they are stuck on SMS, an insecure, old technology just to keep people use #iMessage and an iPhones is the reason I eventually switched over to #Android after using an #iPhone for 5-6 years
Their forcing of users to use their stuff instead of adapting standard technologies annoyed the hell out of me.
Just upgraded my iPad to iPadOS 14.4 beta 2 and full #PWA support is still there as before (I’m in the EU), so perhaps this breakage is just for iPhone?
I’d lightweight been considering trying an #iPhone once a few of my nits were solved—and #Apple appeared to be systematically addressing them over the years:
But now they’re throwing a monumental tantrum and behaving in the most entitled, anti-consumer way possible—if you wrote it into a fictional plot, you’d get dragged for being unrealistically over the top!
So I’ve again lost interest. Apple can keep poisoning their walled garden; it doesn’t affect me. 🤷
Where does #Vivaldi / #VivaldiBrowser store its #pwa configurations? #Linux here.
I have a PWA or "shortcut open as desktop" that opens to the wrong URL. The behavior of the app makes that hard to configure using the UI (it automatically redirects); I want to hand-edit a file.
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are still disabled for EU users in #iOS 17.4 beta 2. But now there's a new pop-up. The pop-up somehow indicates that PWAs are disabled intentionally, rather than being a bug.
It will be a major blow for EU users if iOS 17.4 is released without PWA support. Many major European companies have already converted their native iOS apps into PWAs, mainly to skip the unnecessary overhead imposed by the App Store, such as app distribution and the App Review.

GeoJPG v2 launch on target for March 19 - maybe sooner.
Make your own custom maps, host them for free on Google Drive, view them offline and see your geolocation.
No ads. No tracking. No signup. No cost.
I am developing this as a public service and part of my way to "pay it forward". Plus I am having a blast doing this since - to the best of my knowledge - this is a new approach to offline maps.
y'all wanna see something cool? Currently available in ChromeOS dev or canary (maybe cross-platform too? Only checked on ChromeOS), double-click to install an isolated web app, just like a native app. What's an isolated web app? Come watch my talk PWAs: Past, Present, Future at Confoo this year!
