I didn't like stock at all. It felt chunky and slow for me.
I'm currently digging into MuOS ( https://muos.dev ) , liking it so far! It also has @zep#pico8 support, you simply download the binaries and it runs natively. This is a huge plus for me.
MuOS's menu is not as eye-candy like Batocera, but fast, highly customizable, and works nicely.
After sending my Anbernic RG351P to the grave (don't ask me why 🥲), I bought the Anbernic RG35XX-H as a portable retro gaming console.
@zafer ' s new toy, the RG35XX Pro model (last photo), has the same chipset. Its price was quite reasonable compared to the RG351p at the time (Anbernic is currently $53 + taxes, whereas when I bought the RG351p, it was around $110 excl. taxes).
I got it solely to play games from the GBA generation that I completely missed out on as a kid. I wanted a small device; otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it, and I would have continued with the solutions I already had.
Another notable alternative was the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (2nd photo on the previous post), but it exceeded the absurd 150 euro Turkish imports limit (we cannot order anything over €150 without imports advisor automatically), so I'm not even allowed to buy it...
@factolvictor
This kinda makes me want to find a rom site so I can replay the Disney sega Genesis games I grew up with, except rom sites are scary (hey I still have the cartridges so it's legal, I just don't have a working system) @gaming
I am pretty sure I have spent more time tinkering with my #RG35xx than actually playing games on it. Not in a “trying to make it work” way but in a getting interesting things on it and customizing and curating to my liking.
I feel this is the trap of #sbcgaming and #retrohand where you spend more time fiddling to get the games and system just right as opposed to enjoying playing the systems.
My amazing girlfriend got me a #retro hand held for Christmas. So far been having a blast just getting it customized and applying some hardware mods (better back buttons, fix for a known D-Pad isssue, custom O.S. Etc)
Love my #RG35XX so much. Made this charging display stand for it. The one for the #RG35XXPlus is on the printer now, with better settings. Will swap the cable out for a white one with the white plastic, and a black one for the black plastic.
@rasterweb I’m stuck inside with a fractured ankle as of last week, so I’m charging it daily because I’m using it for hours a day, but the battery life is amazing. I have the Plus as well which I have to charge more as I’m still tinkering with it and blasting Dreamcast and PS games.
Ordered an ANBERNIC RG35XX Plus Game Console, which was recently released. Ironically I already have the original on its way, but of course they announce an improved version while mine is taking its time to arrive 🤦
For retro gaming on the move, looks to be a fun device which I look forward to exploring.

Never get sick of the #SNES game Super Mario World, could beat it with my eyes closed now. First game finished on my #RG35XX and the 48th game I’ve finished this year.
I picked up a #MiyooMiniPlus recently, and have been having fun getting that one working too. It is really pocketable and great for some of the lower end 8 bit systems.
My #C64 was the closest I got to game consoles until I bought my Xbox 360. Never owned any of the handhelds over the years. I'm realizing how much I missed out. And the fun part now is that I can have all those AND the Commodore games I remember.
The Ambernic #RG35XX is the direct competition, and I chose the Miyoo in part because of the Wi-Fi and the Net Play. I will miss the HDMI, but I've also decided that this one really is for the portable small screen experience.
@glitch25 it's just a side note, but IMHO, the #C64was a game console.
I know ppl are surprised by that claim, but then look at the hardware first: The gfx chip #VIC (-II) controls the bus (CPU runs in sync with it), shares RAM with the CPU, offers versatile and efficient tiled display modes (as well as bitmapped), offers hardware interrupts, dedicates most of its silicon to #sprites, etc. The sound chip (#SID) offers a full programmable 3-channel synthesizer. There are I/O ports with both digital and analog lines suitable for lots of game controller devices. There's a clever banking logic allowing to make good use of the whole 64K RAM.
Now look at the half-assed OS. There's the #KERNAL (sic!) by #Commodore, mostly offering I/O streams and only using some timer interrupt, more or less what a #PET could do. On top of that, there's just Microsoft's #BASIC as the only user interface. None of that can make use of any of the hardware features described above. 😏
Anyone from the #retrogaming community who can advise me?
I'm thinking of getting a console, but can't decide — #myioominiplus or #rg35xx?
According to the videos, the RG35XX is a nicer size, has better (warmer) display colors, and (probably) has better build quality. But the Miyoo has Wi-Fi (does it have any real use?) and runs #Pico8 games on it. But it's more expensive (and I couldn't find any official store).
Been sitting here since the 7th obsessively refreshing the tracking for my #Anbernic#RG35XX. It landed in Illinois on the 7th. Then nothing since then, just says “delivered to our shipping partner, USPS awaiting receipt of item”
Then out of nowhere… bam, late today it arrived at a USPS facility in Minneapolis!
Been putting off buying the SD cards and HDMI cable until it moved out of Illinois, but I didn’t think it would jump to Minnesota without passing through Chicago first.
@rasterweb good question. I’ve been unexpectedly in and out of hospitals (serious issues but everyone involved will be fine, eventually). When I had time off from work, I was waiting for it. When it arrived, I had to work from the hospital which was a real bitch, and gaming fell by the wayside.
I’ve spent at least five minutes on every single one of my favorite RPGs. Deeply enjoy F-Zero on large screen televisions.
