I want everyone to have a bike so I "rehome" bikes from donors to give to people who can't afford one.
Some I do a major overhaul; some just need air and maybe adjust brakes a bit. All get delivered in good mechanical condition, cleaned up, lubed. See my website linked below for more info. Avatar is cartoon kid on bike. Header is my truck with 4 donated bikes loaded on rear bike rack.

Tip: If someone disagrees that there was an attempted coup on January 6, or with anything that we all saw with our own eyes, just block and move on. I saw two guys get into it a bit after a post of mine last night. Although I respect the guy who fought for truth, it's just not worth engaging trolls. Keep your sanity and block! It's just not worth it to debate people like that.

yup
It is always one of two things:
● they know damned well you are right and they are baiting you either to get you to wtite something to get banned (like trolling & sea lioning back in the days when twitter cared) or just for the fun of frustrating you
Or
● they are so far around the bend mentally that you woukd need a cult deprogramming expert to even crack the surface of their delusion

The price gouging of feminine products is cruel. I stopped at a pharmacy on the way home and overheard a young woman in the next aisle saying it cut into her budget so much that she was 'rationing'.

Please, do tell me how companies can get away with this? They raised the prices due to 'supply chain' issues a year ago, then they blamed inflation. Evidently, the prices haven't gone down much. These aren't luxury items. it's not like a woman can say, 'I'll give this up'. It's a financial penalty

@dancinyogi there are so many places careful, thoughtful regulation is called for. Capitalism is a good economic system until it runs amok with a handful of oliharchic billionaires and hedgefund managers callimg the shots unregulated. We are ALL in this together, this lifeboat called earth. Those who try to shove people out should themselves take a swim with hungry sharks.

What a slippery slope our environmental degradation is.

Are we going to normalize having to have personal air purifiers in our homes (for those who can afford them) and let polluters keep polluting, rather than clean up the air for everyone?

Update:
Yesterday I assembled a new youth-sized Huffy donated to World Relief still in the box. Box was damaged, probably Huffy sent a replacement and said donate the other. They are not equipped to handle returns. I've gotten quite a few from them and Schwinn that way. Factory partial assembly was a mess. Remaining assembly was easy; then recabling, tuning brakes and shifting, straightening wheel took as long as a battered used bike. How many individuals ⤵️

2CB,
@2CB@urbanists.social avatar

↪️buy like that and end up giving their kid a clunker? For that matter, the big box stores hire someone to assemble what gets shipped to them. No doubt they do better than the average consumer might, but I am certain they don't spend the time I did. Seems like a skilled position waiting to be created.
Anyway, I delivered that Huffy and the two in the above linked thread yesterday⤵️

Two bikes on the Repeat Boutique side of the loading dock, waiting for their guy to take to the shop.

2CB,
@2CB@urbanists.social avatar

↪️Woirld Relief gave me two to take home and fix, and I stopped at Prairie Path Cycles to pick up a donation they called me about on Monday. So I delivered 3 small bikes and brought back 3 big ones. Garage is not pleased. 😄😄

    The "she asked for it" "she deserved it" defense, used in every freaking case, is another assault on the victim and on the decent people on the jury. I had to argue with two scumbag jurors who were predisposed to accept it from the greaseball lawyer and obviously lying perp. I felt like punching them. A 3d bought the other defense of a vast conspiracy of cops, EMTs, hcw. Best I could do was move the vote from 10-2 NG to 9-3 G. Hung jury. Mistrial.🤬

    Anybody want to help get this in some little kid's hands Tuesday? It is it great shape except tires are shot. I have training wheels and a replacement seat previously donated. I added this set of two tires and tubes to the wish list. I have six other larger kids bikes to fix and probably have most needed parts.

    Amazon posting for the needed tires and tubes added to wishlist

    2CB,
    @2CB@urbanists.social avatar

    Just finished it today:
    •straighten bent rim, probably from someone trying to get the tire off
    ○Tighten&true all spokes on other wheel
    ○improvise rim strip using electricians tape
    ○install tires
    ○ replace brake cable
    ○install flip up training wheels
    ○ install new seat, with handle for parent helping learn

    Same bike as recrived

    Because of his willingness to play for segregated audiences, throughout much of his life, Louis Armstrong was called a sellout and an Uncle Tom by many Black Americans, But, in 1957, Satchmo blew up-—blasting Eisenhower to bits for not condemning treatment of Black American students in the South. His passionate words made world headlines, alienated many white fans, and divided Black America.

    I was 8 yrs old when b
    BvB came down. My high school was integrated my jr year. 2 Black kids. Next year there were 7. I saw gas stations that still had 3 restrooms, dual water fountains in department stores. Folks shouldn't criticize anyone who did what they had to do to pave the way.

    'If you go after me, I'm coming after you" - words that would be considered a threat in normal life, without question. But apparently, when it comes to a former President who tweeted those words right after being indicted, there's room for interpretation? Do I have that right? 😡

    2CB,
    @2CB@urbanists.social avatar

    @dancinyogi his handlers were quick to say it was aimed at repubs & donors who are inching awaybfrom him. Pure bs, but by not naming names or roles, he follows the MOB101 guidelines of preserving deniability. We all know there are people involved in his 4 ongoing criminal & civil cases who get the message. Other than possibly prospective jurers, I doubt anyone is concerned by it. And his mob will see it as a rallying cry from a strong leader, for some perhaps a call to arms.

    Miracles can happen. Many have tried to get me to hit a ball like that. Mark succeeded.

    2CB,
    @2CB@urbanists.social avatar

    @dancinyogi i can hit a bucket of balls, topping some, shanking and slicing, but then that one lucky strike with a driver or maybe 3-iron just goes "click" and sails straight and loooong. I hit one 25 years ago on a course in Sydney, Aus. My host, a corp VP who was a good golfer said in that lovely Australian accent "Good one, Don! That's the shot that brings ya back!"
    Ps: it was the 18th hole and I won the hole.

    Great moments on ‘why not both’ history:

    “It turns out that more people ride the bus when the trip is free and the service is frequent. At least, that’s the case in Alexandria, where the DASH bus service just set a ridership record, at 4.5 million boardings in just one year.”

    This is great, an example to other similar areas. Here in suburban Chicago there are many large areas of light industry. Distribution centers with huge warehouses employing many people in 3 shifts for packaging, assembly, loading/ unloading trucks, etc. There are also scattered areas of affordable housing where many refugees are settled. They're not close; bus service slim to none. I've given bikes to a few 100 to get to work. They carpool in beater cars. Perfect candidate region.

    Something I learned again yesterday. We can't control what happens to us, but we can control our reactions. We may have times when we feel we have no control over our lives, but we do have control over how we react to our lives. Also, we can choose who we let into our hearts and minds and who we kick to the curb. 😊

    Agree. Yes, there may be workarounds for some. But every added step required for something that should be simple, as simple as filling out a form and mailing it, with help from a friend or volunteer if unsure of how to mark it correctly, creates another hoop to jump through & deters more people with a Condtitutional right to vote. This shit is no different than the literacy tests before the VRA. They just mask it.

    & there is NO legitimate reason for any of it. The excuse that it is to block mythical "vote fraud" is a steaming pile of crap. When all the efforts are aimed at specific populations it is overtly accusing THAT population of being a pack of lawless criminals.
