Earned my #HalfMarathon PR today on the beautiful #SammamishRiverTrail (SRT): time 1:48:25 pace 8'16”/mile according to #Strava. My watch again generously claims time was 1:42:49. I picked Strava to be the record.
Temp feels like 50F, dew point 47F, cloudy w/ breeze 3.2mph SW. In other words, perfect weather to get PR!
@BenjaminHan@WTL I haven’t seen this kind of discrepancy yet. I guess you would want to download the GPX file from Strava and take a look at it… (there are some apps to extract GPX info from the fitness app as well (though you might have “other means” 😜). With the different GPX files you could compare their data (it is just XML anyway) or upload them to different other sites to see what they make out of them. Gaia, GPX studio, …
9.37 miles easy run @ #SVT, also testing another pair of #shoes: ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25. Result is not good: the lateral side of my right foot hurts after the run (not during)! I blame it on the high stack of cushioning: my theory is my natural reflex to counterbalance the unevenness of the trail surface is interfered/distorted by the cushioning. Does that sound plausible?
@BenjaminHan Is there any obvious (to the touch) distortion in the cushioning? I am running in a highly cushioned set of shoes and while they last I find them very comfortable on trail runs. As soon as any distortion occurs - say 2k or so, they become increasingly unusable for anything other than gardening…
My dear #running / #trailrunning friends: I need to ask for advise on picking #shoes for #marathon runs on paved roads and mildly unpaved trails (photo 1):
ASICS Trabuco Max 2 (photo 2): the middle in weight (~290g), not waterproof. Bouncy w/ rocker design.
Salomon Speedcross 5 (photo 3): the heaviest (~295g), waterproof(?). Big lugs.
@BenjaminHan I am just running in a new pair of ASICs - never tried them before. First couple of days and 75k seem happy enough. I get through 3-4 pairs of shoes a year, so I will make a note to write a review 1000k in.
I do have a pair of Salmons and find them extremely comfortable for walking and occasional trail runs but not as good when I have to mix road and tracks.
One of the stretch goals in 2024 is now accomplished! I got my latest PR in today's #Parkrun 5K: 21:38 at pace 6'57"/mile, thus reaching my goal of getting sub-7' pace!
Going in I was pessimistic because of the jet lag. Turns out running uphills with 1300ft elevation gains in #Sintra#Portugal paid off!
Perhaps a bunny helped me today 🐇? After last Sunday's #marathon race PR, on my 50th #Parkrun 5K today I made my third PR this year: time was 22:33, pace 7’16”! This is 34 seconds faster than my last PR!
This completes my 2nd goal in 2024: earn 3 PRs in Parkrun!
“Is the Barkley the world's toughest race? In a word, yes. But that's reductive and misses the point. It's fundamentally a celebration of the magnificence of the raw human spirit. To find that inner spirit of ours, we need a challenge that’s almost impossible.”
“And this year, there was also a new section that used to be used for hillside mining, it was all covered in brambles so our legs got slashed to pieces.” “
My first #marathon#race, done! Official result was 3:51:39.8, pace 8'50"/mile. I was ranked overall 50/167, in males 40/102, or in my age group 5/9. This is slightly slower than my PR in practice (3:50:33, pace 8'48”).
But the official time didn't account for the three times I was lost (!) and had to either retract or asked people (I was not the only one). According to my watch I earned PR on marathon: 3:44:58, pace 8’35”, and #halfMarathon: 1:45:19, pace 8’02”. (1/2)
5th time is the charm: I finally cracked my 1st sub-4h #marathon today! Moving time was 3:50:33, pace 8’48”/mile. For each half I was actually faster than my best official #halfMarathon PR (1:55:16 < 1:56)!
Weather was typical #Seattle: nagging drizzle. Temperature feels like 40F (4.4C) w/ wind 7 mph (S). Thanks to my son on the bike (he came even when losing 1 hour sleep to #DST change), we performed no-stopping fueling twice, and I only brought two gel packs on me w/o phone.
Got my #15K PR in my dusk run in the park: time 1:17:51 pace 8’21”/mile! Getting ready for the early March #HotChocolateRun in #Seattle!
Although there’s still a lot of room for improvement, I’m proud that I can actually speed up my pace now into the run! And this was done after a heavy meeting day at work started at 8am!
“For the first time, the average global #temperature was more than 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above the pre-industrial average for a full 12 months. “
