Woken by an SVT incident at 02:25. Heart rate jumped to 128 bpm. I did the MVM and it stopped it on first go. Rate dropped to normal. Fitful sleep for the rest of the night 🥱

The Bisoprolol tablets I got a few weeks ago are a different brand. I don’t think they are as good as previous prescriptions. Or they are a dodgy batch.

See this post for more info on SVT and MVM https://mastodon.social/@ianRobinson/110251779905694078

9.37 miles easy run @ , also testing another pair of : ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25. Result is not good: the lateral side of my right foot hurts after the run (not during)! I blame it on the high stack of cushioning: my theory is my natural reflex to counterbalance the unevenness of the trail surface is interfered/distorted by the cushioning. Does that sound plausible?

I have to return the heart monitor I’ve been wearing all week to the hospital tomorrow morning. I won’t miss wearing it.

No SVT symptoms in the last week, apart from two times today when it briefly felt like an SVT style heart racing incident was trying to start. Neither did.

The last time it happened was 22nd March when I mucked about with the times I took the Bisoprolol beta blocker. That was grim. That last standard incident was 18th January.

Heart monitor picked up. Staff member seemed surprised I walked to the department and wasn’t parked in the pick up area.

It comes with 7 sets of the electrodes you see on ECG machines. Two for each day.

I’ve to pick up a heart monitor from the hospital tomorrow to wear for a week. I wasn’t going to get it, as the Bisoprolol tablets seem to have dampened my SVT symptoms.

But then I thought I could use a £1900 medically certified heart monitor to validate the data reported by my Apple Watch Ultra. £1900 is what I’ll be billed if I don’t return the monitor after a week.

In a move sure to jinx it, today is 2 months since I last had an SVT* heart racing incident on 18th Jan. The previous one before that was on the 18th Dec. I’ve only had 3 incidents since starting on Bisoprolol tablets. And the first of those was so soon after starting the tablets their effect probably hadn’t started. So signs are good bisoprolol is working.

I do feel tiredness—a common side effect. I’m going to move when I take it from morning to evening.

My cardiologist used two Apple Watch ECG traces I sent him as part of a diagnosis of SVT last November.

SVT incident this morning. The first one since 18th of December. I was thinking yesterday that it hadn’t happened for a while. Jinxed it.

Heart rate jumped to 152 bpm as I was standing at my desk leaning forward to login to my computer.

The first MVM stopped it. Rate dropped to 58 bpm. Then bounced to 70bpm. Which is typical after doing an MVM.

Still too early to tell if the Bisoprolol beta blocker is reducing the number of incidents.

TIL that taking Bisoprolol beta blocker doesn’t prevent me getting SVT attacks. I had one this morning at 06:25. It woke me. The MVM that has stopped most of them in the last year didn’t work today. Tried 3 times over about 50 minutes. SVT stopped by itself after an hour. The SVT heart rate was lower due to the beta blocker. About 115 average rather than 130 average before I started on Bisoprolol. But 1 data set isn’t enough to draw conclusions.

In somewhat unsurprising news, taking a beta blocker means my resting heart rate is down (average 60 bpm before starting on the beta blocker, and average 50 bpm now).

My exercise heart rate when doing 5km walks over a route I've walked for a few years now is also lover by about 20 bpm over the whole hour it approximately takes to walk 5km. It was about 120 bpm on average before taking the beta blocker and is now averaging about 100 bpm.

It's only been two days. I will monitor more.

This is pretty cool. I sent the cardiologist I had a telephone appointment with a couple of Apple Watch ECG recordings that I took when I was experiencing what I've self-diagnosed as SVT. I got a letter this morning that includes:

"Many thanks for forwarding me your ECG tracings. [They] look like either a [SVT] or atrial flutter. I am commencing [beta blocker dose]. We will reassess your symptoms in a clinic in 3 months’ time.”

Apple Watch ECG reader FTW! :)

My hospital heart treadmill stress test has been pushed back a week. It’s now on the day I was meant to see The Beaches in London.

I cancelled the London trip for other reasons. I’d have had to cancel it now anyway.

I also got a call from my GP practice saying there is a prescription waiting for me. Requested by the Cardiac unit in the hospital. I don’t know what it is but I expect it’ll be a beta blocker.

I had my phone consultation with a cardiologist about the heart-racing incidents I've been having for the last while.

They are going to get me an extended wear heart monitor for a week to see if it can capture an incident. And an ultrasound scan of my heart. They want me to go to A&E for an ECG when it happens again.

I’m also emailing them ECGs recorded by my Apple Watch. They didn’t officially say it’s SVT, as they need to see an ECG from when it’s happening. But it is SVT.

Updated my SVT* tracking spreadsheet and notes in prep for my teleconsultation with a cardiologist tomorrow.

Since I learned about and started to do the MVM when I get an SVT attack, most (34) have only lasted a few minutes as the MVM stopped them immediately. Six lasted about 30 minutes, and three about an hour. The longer ones were stopped by an MVM after a few attempts.

Before I started using MVM, three lasted for 17, 10, & and 6 hours!

My hospital appointment in October has been cancelled. They are getting a cardiology specialist to call me at around the same time 🤷🏻‍♂️

From my point of view this is fine as I can tell whoever phones me exactly what I would tell a cardiologist in person. The chances of me having the SVT-like symptoms at the actual time of the appointment are slim. It’s happened around 60 times in the last 635 days.

The letter doesn’t say why the in-person appointment has been cancelled.

I've been tracking the days I have had an incident in a Numbers spreadsheet since the first one on 03/01/22. Of course he has, most people who know me will say!

On the 623 days since the first, I've had 60 days with an attack. See picture. Five days had two attacks for a total of 65. Frequency increasing. Cardiology appointment in 4 weeks.

I discovered the technique in January this year. It stops the attacks. After a few goes in some cases. See https://mastodon.social/@ianRobinson/110251779905694078 for SVT info.
