Some good news from London Hackspace! :D

London Hackspace is taking part in the London Craft Festival this weekend:

https://www.parkroyaldesigndistrict.com/craft-festival-2024

We're almost set up, and should be open for members at the end of June. :D

I’m a bit stressed putting together my new Kromanski; it has text about voided warranty if the front and back are flipped. It doesn’t have nearly as clear instructions as the SampleIt did. Also, my right side heddle blocks’ little wooden nubs is not really going in. :-(

Can anyone tell if there’s anything obviously wrong so far? Also, on the Kromskis, is the logo generally on the front side or the back side? That might help me orient a bit.

@jonobie

Is it one of these?

The instructions have a part-list, so maybe you can work out if your kit is complete. :D

Maybe ask on the London Threadspace mailing list:

https://groups.google.com/g/london-threads-space

It's been quiet recently, but the people are still actively working on things. :D

One of them did a loom re-build at the space recently. :D

Nothing dismays me more in academia than my colleagues excusing themselves from the world because they have internalized their job as their identity, and exist in a separate domain from everyone else. every time I knock on doors with my union I get someone, sometimes angrily, wondering what any of this has to do with them - they're here to just do science.

And don't forget the brainwashing effect of the teaching approach:

Wowza. Booking a Lyft right now to downtown shows $75. Yellow Cab App shows $30-40. Am gonna give the new app a whirl and cross my fingers that the fare isn't ridiculous with a meter. (One thing I don't love about cabs.)

Last time I took a cab from the airport, it was fully $20 less than the same trip had been a week earlier with Lyft. The rideshare apps are seeming like no longer such a good deal...

Hard to imagine a signal that a website is a rugpull more intense than banning users for trying to delete their own posts

Like just incredible "burning the future to power the present" energy here

Or the move from SlashDot to SoylentNews.

Simplest way: If you see a service that has hints of this, warn your friends, and, get a large bucket of popcorn.

HTC's Viviverse virtual world turned on their Fediverse connection yesterday I think.

This is actually major news. HTC is a major company!!

The link on the original profile takes me to a JSON error page, though the main Viverse website is still working.

From looking there, it seems to be a VR-version of Gather.town. :D

The combination of manufacturable hydrocarbons and cheaper electricity from renewables works well. :D

Yes, it does require the roll-out of new infrastructures, but that is already in progress. :D

Though probably not quick enough to avoid the slow mega-deaths via poverty.

The technology is already here. We just need to implement it equitably. :D

@HistoPol @Snowshadow

The early Proofs-Of-Concept for hydrocarbon manufacturing in the laboratory took place in the late 1890's/early-1900's, but electricity was more expensive to generate then. :D
