Given the excellent video @anderspuck put out yesterday about the stakes for #Europe and the #US to defeat #Russia in #Ukraine, I wonder if he'd be so kind as to comment on this article by Mark Galeotti, who seems to have a slightly different outlook about both #Putin's ambitions & military potential.
“The Israeli state can’t be committing genocide against the Palestinians because the Palestinian population has grown” and “Israel is just fighting terrorism” are two denialist tropes that the Chinese state gleefully adopted to excuse and deny its own genocide of the Uyghur people.
@Micha_Silver
Members of the current Israeli government have literally advocated for ethnic cleansing of Palestinians & the prime minister has himself invoked biblical passages that justify the total annihilation of enemies.
@dacig
I don't want to speak for @anderspuck , but I think he's trying to convey that #Russia, if not defeated in #Ukraine, is an existential threat to security in #Europe, whereas #HAMAS does not pose such an existential threat to the continent.
Interesting that he thinks European leaders haven't quite grasped what's "on the line" as @randahl put it.
I also thought his pessimism towards #Israel's approach in #Gaza was interesting.
Quick note to say I have spent a whole year now on mastodon, having loads of rewarding conversations with so many lovely and interesting people. Thanks for reading ❤️
It looks like Ukraine has damaged the Russian missile corvette Askold. The timing is interesting. The ship is not delivered to the navy yet, but was in the final phases of construction with a predicted delivery date in December. In other words, Ukraine let them build this ship just to destroy it right before it was finished.
Russia has a year's head start on the realization that the war in Ukraine will take a long time. In Ukraine and the West there were very big hopes invested in the summer offensive, and I largely see the current debate about war fatigue as an expression of the renegotiation that must take place in light of the disappointing results. #Ukraine#Russia https://youtu.be/jSwIAVelw9o
@anderspuck
I seem to recall you saying last year that #Putin was in some way bluffing that his strategy was to wait out the West & that what he really wanted was a quick victory.
I'm curious as to what led you to that conclusion then. What do you think #Russia's timeline looks like to them now?
v Reuters - quotes from the speech of Israel PM Netanyahu :
ONGOING GROUND OPERATION IN #GAZA IS THE SECOND STAGE OF THE #WAR
WE WILL EXERT EVERY EFFORT TO RETURN #HOSTAGES
THOSE ACCUSING US OF WAR CRIMES ARE HYPOCRITS
THE WAR INSIDE THE GAZA STRIP WILL BE DIFFICULT AND LONG
CAN'T SAY #IRAN WAS INVOLVED IN PLANNING OF OCT. 7 ATTACK BUT THEY FUND #HAMAS
@doomscroller
It's incredible what they're burning through. And they've lost more tanks this month than any single month since March 2022! @VikingChieftain
My Mastodon feed/notifications aren't updating at the moment making me miss messages as I can't see them, I apologize to everyone waiting for a reply, but not getting one.
There also seems to be some issues with the link preview being generated.
I blocked both of these self-described #OSINT accounts on the platform formerly known as #twitter months before #SpaceKaren was promoting them as "good sources" for information regarding #Israel, #HAMAS, #Ukraine, & #Russia.
Since you literally wrote the book, can you comment on the connection between the new #US#SpeakerOfTheHouse and that redhead #Russia'n woman from the #NRA?
Meanwhile #Israel's defence minister, Yoav Gallant, has said Israel will sever all ties with the #Gaza Strip once its war with #Hamas is over -- it would, as he put it, end its "responsibility" for life there.
The #Hamas authorities say #Israeli attacks have now killed more than 4100 people.
Over 1400 Israelis were killed in Hamas' unprecedented extremist attacks within Israel earlier this month
