The CEO of Exxon just said "we've waited too long" to tackle climate change. He blames "society" and "activists".

Yes, Exxon. Yes, Exxon. Yes, Exxon: the corporation that for decades has been spending millions to slow progress on climate change, despite its own research showing the problem was urgent.

He said:

"We've waited too long to open the aperture on the solution sets in terms of what we need, as a society, to start reducing emissions.... Frankly, society, and the activist โ€” the dominant voice in this discussion โ€” has tried to exclude the industry that has the most capacity and the highest potential for helping with some of the technologies."

What is this โ€” some sort of dark, twisted joke?

The interview is here:

It's the worst kind of gaslighting, from the industry that paid for propaganda and 'alternative' climate science for the past forty odd years.

Can we really claim to be a democracy when the government very clearly does not care if people can vote? https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/03/25/can-we-really-claim-to-be-a-democracy-when-the-government-very-clearly-does-not-care-if-people-can-vote/. More than 7 million people in the UK are missing from electoral registers. The government does not seem to care and is undoubtedly making matters worse. Are we a democracy when electoral abuse on this scale is going on?

"Can we really claim to be a democracy when the government very clearly does not care if people can vote?"
This suggests some kind of negligence in the rollout but I'd argue this is the desired effect. Just as in the US when Republicans are disenfranchising minorities and the disabled, since-if they do vote they're probably not going to vote for the right. Ideally they'll be prevented from voting at all due to not having the correct ID.

Sticking with the vein of vile fast food restaurants I'd say Long John Silver's and Arby's/Wimpy (though tbh you could include any ff 'restaurant' here, as in Kfc or Subway-with bread so sweet it is officially/legally 'cake') because birds of an imminent heart attack flock together?

P.S. Wimpy - the crappy British version of Micky D's ๐Ÿ˜‚, where the food is ironically even worse than Micky D's.

No, there are a good many left wing Israelis who don't want this, and some of them were arrested at the recent protest-demanding the return of the hostages. Before that, with Netanyahu's power grab over the judiciary, Netanyahu's govt/police treated dissent with only brutality - it's in the background of that that the Hamas attack occurred (because many IDF were refusing to return to service/back the Net. dictatorship).

Lately, I have read a lot of people complain that people did not care about .

I believe this statement to be wrong, I think most people care but they do not see how their actions could make a difference.

We have proven that we could reach out to people about the because people care.

Now there is a question I would like to ask all of you: Do you remember what or who got you interested in composting? What made you care for it?

I wonder how many letters have gone in so far to the 1922 Committee? Graham Brady, among other Tory 'notables', make some noise about the plot to oust Sunak being 'madness', but I bet at least Mordaunt is secretly celebrating.

She only needs 15% of the parliamentary party to submit letters...

Chances of Sunak surviving a confidence vote, anyone?

If there was a genuine safety or security threat from Chinese EV batteries, and not merely Republicans apparently point-scoring with the xenophobic base, then there might be a point to restricting EV consumption from China.

I don't see how the battery technology alone would pose a security threat though (arguably not nearly as great a one as having cheap security cameras all over the place anyway).

Seems like Sunak wants to pass the responsibility to councils to enforce his ridiculous anti-smoking ideas. So they first will need to issue enough fines to pay the salaries of the new officers-required to enforce this mess. Then it will simply send the vape market underground and make it more dangerous.

What was needed was ban on marketing to children and vapes loaded with sugar, as well as requiring retailers to recycle.

Sunak thinks he's being 'clever' ๐Ÿ™„
