Remember when lots of journalists tried Mastodon but then found it too complicated, so they left? I think about that every time I read their 'analysis' of something
@Ex_spurt Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are many kinds of "journalists," some more commendable than others. And honestly, I'm just not sure if we can call most tech writers "journalists."
They rarely do journalism work (as in research, etc). They're mostly paid to talk about the next cool Silicon Valley thing. (because of sycophantism mostly?)
Hence them being all over BlueSky and ignoring the Fediverse.
But that doesn't say anything about journalism as a whole.
@jasemurphy@Ex_spurt Search also matters. Even without the algorithm, it's a lot easier to find people talking about breaking current events on a platform like Twitter that supports search and not just hashtags, and then not that difficult to ID and locate tweets from folks who may have firsthand experience or other expertise. It's harder to do that in the fediverse, due to the slower and sometimes fragmented nature of the network, and the much more limited view hashtags give you.
This should go without saying, but if the leader of your country needs immunity from criminal prosecution to do their job then you're living in a criminal state
When we talk about Germany, we always define that period when they weren't the happy go lucky, laugh a minute tuetons that we know today by referring to it as Nazi Germany.
We need to start adopting this for the US. For example, we should commence calling it Nazi Florida or Nazi Texas, or refer to it as the US Nazi Supreme Court. This shows we understand not all US citizens are Nazis, just that those institutions are run by them now
I may be out of touch here, and it's a while since I raised any children, but does anyone still teach kids that screaming endlessly and pointlessly at the top of their lungs is antisocial?
Quiet 'quitting' should not be conflated with work to rule. Quiet quitting suggests skiving off and doing sweet FA while collecting a full pay. Work to rule is an entirely legitimate way to demonstrate the true value of your work and is even more effective when carried out collectively
