Mastodon is great, the only thing I miss on this app is quote posts. I know they have a bad rap bc of Twitter, but every major social network has this functionality for a reason (Tumblr, LinkedIn, Facebook, IG). As a journalist, I’d love to add commentary and amplify great info, build on ppl’s points, etc. You just can’t do that the same wait with replies! Is there any chance we might get them on here?

I do want to get off mastodon mostly because I feel like eugen is moving towards removing the federated/local timelines which removes a vital aspect of the fediverse I enjoy and want to see continue to exist.

Ultimately as like, the maintainer and showrunner of mastodon he has a right to do this, I have a right to think that's bullshit and want to move off of it.

Right now im thinking a misskey, I'll have to look at the calckey as well as the other forks. Im not fundamentally against akkoroma but I don't trust the judgement and leadership of lain and I feel like im gonna suffer the same issue I have with being on glitch social where im still fundamentally beholden to decisions I disagree with but with a bandaid on top.

Been researching fight sticks for potentially playing on PS5 and holy crap, this is confusing! 😩 Everything seems to be super expensive, always out of stock, maybe works with a firmware update, requires an adaptor, will/won't require another controller to be plugged in...

I just want to plug in a USB cable, have everything I need, and for it to just work 100% of the time. Any thoughts?

@benjaminrivers Are you looking for a classic design with an actual stick, or a stickless , all buttons design?

What is your ideal budget?

Will you be playing on anything other than PS5?

Do you intend to travel with this stick, whether that's to friend's houses or tourney venues? Or will it live and stay at your home?

Do you want something you can customize later? Or a one time solution? Many arcade sticks are designed to allow swappable buttons and joystick

I'm a DIY guy when it comes to Arcade Sticks but these brook converters are hella popular and have a good reputation. i have not personally used one.

I also recommend buying a stick used if you want to save money. Fighting Games are frustrating and there's always someone giving up on their dreams and willing to sell your they're stick for cheap

Okay, so some observations after a week of social media turmoil:

  • A LOT of people (including a fair number of law profs) migrated to Bluesky last weekend.

  • It appears that many of them already had invite codes but didn't use them until Twitter melted down (again).

  • Related: At least one of my friends noted that during the last Great Migration (November) they weren't really sure Twitter would implode, so they weren't ready to jump (or fully jump) quite yet

@tcely @design_law She said people who didn't want to build a follow list. A reticence to manually building a follow list usually includes hashtags as well as accounts. One isn't easier than the other.

The home vs local feed is simple but not intuitive and also requires an explanation for new users

I think interacting and plotting the contours of a person, even if only to discover that you do not ever want to talk to that MF again, is fascinating.

My wife disagrees but that vs I'm the designated "talks to strangers" person in the relationship

I'm apparently one of the few extrovert engineers, but being loud and boisterous is like a way to affect the world, and i refuse to cede that method to assholes.

I agree with you that i may not want to go out and see the world all the time. I don't want to travel. I'm a homebody. I want to go home to my wife and my PC. But talking to people personally or professionally (usually) energizes me rather than drains me

It occurred to me that there were two groups of people that came to Mastodon in November. The first thought Twitter was literally going to shut down and needed virtual methodone for their social media addiction. The second were users dissatisfied with what Twitter had become and jumped at an alternative. I believe it's the second group that have stuck around.

Add a perspective other than "people left Mastodon cause it didn't sufficiently pander to their preexisting addiction."

Some of us left cause we were made to feel unwelcome.
Some of us stayed because we're stubborn

Some of us just want to see this place become less niche and more welcoming

Is it fair? No. But he's so high profile that his image affects the brand of the NBA, which just got a boost in popularity from a white dude leading his team to the championship.

And fair or not, the NBA isn't going to let a player mess with its brand. That's just how it is.

The first 8 game susp came after the legal charges/ altercation with the teenager and video of him with a gun in the club

He said all the right buzzwords to make this a blip on his record that we'd all forget.

And then he was caught on social media with a gun again.

I think he 25 game second susp is arbitrary especially for something that isn't a crime. 10-15 games would have been sufficient

But being a star in the league comes with extra scrutiny and expectations
