The whole idea of BlueSky supporting nomadic identities but the rest of the ActivityPub (plus other stuff) Fediverse being unable to do so is such an oversold idea.
A new service using ActivityPub behind the scenes (and not the AT Protocol) can absolutely support nomadic identities, even if the service doesn't treat a whole website as the actor.
It will still use did:plc, same as AT Protocol (BlueSky), but once done so, an application that understands how to work with did:plc can dereference an actor based on the DID.
That said, an existing service will simply not be compatible with this idea, without changing how it operates.
Beginners question: is nomadic identity the ability to have one identity and use it across multiple fediverse tools? (Pixelfed / Mastodon / Lemmy / Peertube / etc.)
Did some reading and that's what it sounded like, and that only Hubzilla supported it?
Okay woah, this is on a whole new level. Been trying Friendica and Hubzilla, but seems a bit over the pay grade in terms of complexity. And oddly enough, not too many intro/how to videos of them on youtube either...
Will have to do some further reading, as these two don't seem to be as user friendly as the normal Fediverse apps. And those were already a mind-shift when coming from traditional social media.
This noob is testing the interconnectivity of the #Fediverse:
The word out there on the Fediverse make it seem as if all the different tools (Mastdn/P-tube/Lemmy/etc.) can interact with one another. But this is not the case, as some work both ways, whilst others only one way, or at all.
a) Using #Bridgyfed, to test between AT ( #BlueSky ) & AP protocols (Mastodon, etc.)
b) Meta's #Threads for testing with Mastodon.
c) Starting to test #Nostr with its peer-to-peer network.
TL;DR:
The #Fediverse holds a lot of promise, but it the ideal level of interconnectivity isn't there yet. (And yes, not all of them need to be able to connect and interact on the same level of details as with the others, as they are different tools.)
You can now sign up to #Threaded’s beta waitlist! This also includes a few update emails every now and then, but maybe at some point you’ll get an invite link 👀
A lot of people have insisted #Meta isn't getting involved with the #Fediverse to embrace, extend and extinguish it...
... but even before fully implementing Fediverse interoperability in #Threads they're already talking openly about changing its protocols to add features like monetization. 🤔
Text in a screenshot reads as follows: McCue riffed on the idea that fediverse users could become creators where some of their content became available to subscribers only, similar to how Patreon works. For instance, fediverse advocate and co-editor of ActivityPub Evan Prodromou created a paid Mastodon account (@evanplus) that users could subscribe to for $5 per month to gain access. If he’s on board with paid content, surely others would follow. Cottle agreed that the model could work with the fediverse, too. He additionally suggested there are ways the fediverse could monetize beyond donations, which is what often powers various efforts today, like Mastodon. Cottle said someone might even make a fediverse experience that consumers would pay for, the way some fediverse client apps are paid today.
Release banner for Hubzilla 9.0 Hubzilla 9.0 is here and delivers many improvements under the hood and at the UI level. Two of the most asked features have been implemented: repeats a.k.a. boosts and adjustable theme colors at the channel and site level. Hubmins can also customize other components via the bootstrap sass variables.
Under the hood we implemented a short term object cash which will improve performance when fetching objects. The internal use of ActivityStreams1 has been deprecated in favor of ActivityStreams2. Object integrity proofs (EddsaSignatures) according to fep-8b32 have been implemented. Interesting for developers: CI and the test environment have been vastly improved.
Other notable changes are: refactored browser to browser encryption using the modern sodium crypto library and support for custom emojis with configurable emoji sets.
For a complete list of changes in Hubzilla 9.0 please refer to the changelog.
A big THANK YOU! to all contributors and everybody who supports Hubzilla and its development.

#Hubzilla is a powerful platform for creating interconnected websites featuring a decentralized identity, communications, and permissions framework built using common webserver technology.
@danie10 Thanks for the explanation, asking because having tested Pixelfed, Mastodon, Firefish, Lemmy, etc. It seems like they don't all allow to operate, follow or interact as one would imagine based on how they make it sound in articles or on some of the sites. So looking for something that might be:
a) one place to host your id (nomad?)
b) can interact across the Fediverse without needing a bunch of accounts, like non-fedi/other social sites
@danie10 Thanks a mill, will go have a look at the video! Yes the type of site isn't the issue, it's more about being able to interact with the other Fedi sites without needing all the other accounts. And the nomadic ID sounds like something that's been in the mind for a while. Keen to check it out now, thanks again! 😄
