A recurring form of culture shock to me is that Europe’s economy is stagnating relative to US & China and its leaders’ primary efforts in tech initiatives isn’t to spur local innovation but to increasingly penalize successful US & Chinese companies.

Don’t they care about GDP?

The US is aggressively trying to increase its local tech capabilities with initiatives like the CHIPS Act while the EU is just restriction after restriction from GDPR to DSA to DMA. All well intentioned but no growth plan

SenseException,
@SenseException@phpc.social avatar

@carnage4life I don't know if I understand how these numbers came together. How much did a lower minimum wage influence these numbers? Or more paid leave days in a year? "Evil" unions and their fight for better work conditions? Enforced higher quality of products and services?

Guten Morgen vom Elephant Mountain.

"We always did it that way" also fits to vaccines. Now we have people doubting something that helped to save lifes in the past.

Sometimes we were always doing it that way because it provably is the right thing to do. Now people would even question seatbelts in cars (again) or washing hands (again).

Software development is no exception.

I also did some XML stuff one or two years ago after that, creating translation files.

Fallout (2024-)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve never seen an adaptation be so perfectly executed. The tone, the set dressing, the story… every detail is exactly what you’d expect in the Fallout universe. Even the sense of dark humor and insanity is pitch perfect. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are brilliant and this show was fantastic. Here’s to more!

SenseException,
@SenseException@phpc.social avatar

@justin A friend of mine disliked it because she wasn't able to understand the Fallout world. Does the show require some game knowledge? When I explained some infos from the games, she said she understands the show a bit more now.
