By far my favourite bit of architectural ironwork in Glasgow, and possibly anywhere in the world! It can be found on D.B. Dobson's 1902 Art Nouveau commercial building at 50 Darnley Street in Glasgow.
I like how social media and news sites call it your "feed". Makes me feel like a farm animal getting fattened up for slaughter so I can be divided up and sold piecemeal to advertisers.
Florida man: Fugitive John Mark Dougan fled to Moscow and runs more than 150 pro-Russia/pro-Trump disinformation sites targeting Americans. Previously a US Marine and Sheriff's Deputy, he fled to Russia after committing election fraud and numerous other crimes.
Growing up in the 80's and 90's, our parents let us out of the house after breakfast, and no one bothered us until dinner. How can I get this as an adult?
Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.
So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!
@kim_harding I would be interested in the performance figures of this battery regarding terminal voltage and discharge rate. Costs would appear to be favourable in relation to lithium but perhaps not to nickel metal-hydride. One limiting factor could be volatility in the presence of water. This has been resolved in lithium by careful packaging. The same response would need to be taken with sodium.
i just genuinely do not want a computer to ‘summarize’ anything for me and i don’t understand that want. it’s either worth it to me to engage with something a human wrote or it isn’t, i have no desire for some weird in-between experience. and it’s completely bizarre to me that people do want that.
@brhfl People use these services because they are time poor and want things made easy. In practice, these summaries are often longer than the original and input incorrect information.
@GatekeepKen The views of these people are increasingly leading to losses of support since repeal of Roe Versus Wade. This could impact on the resulting vote in the General Election.
Will you give the web browser Mozilla Firefox a try or will you learn to live with ads and less privacy?! Only Firefox can overcome YouTube ads and the ever watchful eye of Google and Microsoft.
@alexproe The current electric vehicle programme is not sustainable. The only real way forward is some kind of rolling inductive charging. This is being installed under U.K. roads without official confirmation. This explains the excessive number of road closures at night. The inductors are one metre grids with brass handles each side. I saw one being lowered in the ground. Look out for road signs saying 'Installing technology overnight'
