YES, it is true, I am moving to a new Mastodon instance.

@Linux_Is_Best

I truly did like it here on Mstdn dot Social and the administrator, @stux works really hard to maintain the site, so I believe everyone should continue to support them.

My choice to relocate is the new instance is faster (it likely is a T-Mobile thing).

My new Mastodon instance is Sakurajima dot Moe which hosted by, @sakurajima

Naturally, my name is not changing. The same Linux_Is_Best as always! 😉

Software update? That sounds like bullsh*t.

This impacted not only AT&T but also Verizon and T-Mobile. It went well beyond America and into Canada.

It wasn't just in network, but also out of network too.

In network = Verizon to Verizon

Out of network = T-Mobile to Verizon or AT&T

Is ATT now managing Verizon and T-Mobile? And both in the USA and Canada? 🤔

More questions than answers.

#ATT #Verizon #Tmobile #Canada #USA

kirb, to random
@kirb@hachyderm.io avatar

So we all know AT&T had its outage, but so much of the media somehow ended up citing DownDetector to say that T-Mobile and Verizon were also out. Except they were fine. At worst, you couldn’t call or text an AT&T customer, because well yeah, AT&T customers had no service.

Can we use this as a lesson that DownDetector isn’t a good source of anything, please? Like, literally, visit the site. Everyone there says everything is down always. It serves no useful purpose other than for SEO clicks.

Linux_Is_Best,
@Linux_Is_Best@mstdn.social avatar

@kirb

Except that is not true, because Verizon and T-Mobile did have outages with Verizon users unable to call anymore and some T-Mobile users who experienced the same.

It was primarily ATT, but it was not exclusive to AT&T. The outage also expanded beyond just the United States, but also in Canada too.

Mastodon Has A Serious SPAM Problem

Thank you to @cappy and everyone else over at @hq who was involved in this research

@BrodieOnLinux @cappy @hq

The Fediverse needs a shared AI.

I work for Meta and 99% of everything is caught by the AI, but that remaining 1% is still enough to keep me fully employed -most of which is review and appeals now.

This is a dynamic problem that needs a dynamic solution.

The Fediverse needs something that can easily learn and adapt. It cannot just focus on this issue as Forums did, making people jump through hoops to prove they're human, while AI bots bypass captcha, Q&A, and email

Linux_Is_Best,
@Linux_Is_Best@mstdn.social avatar

@jupiter_rowland

AI does not need to be centralized anymore than Mastodon, Misskey, or Sharkey is centralized.

The Fediverse does need an AI to face the ever growing problems it will face.

Script kiddies and hackers are not the real threats of the future. The real threats will be corporations and governments that do not like a social media platform they cannot control and cannot shut down, that anyone can host and join.

A dynamic solution for dynamic problems or it will meet a dynamic end.

Cons -- If they lose the war, Russia now has a new and better infrastructure to enter Poland.

The problem is so many sites flash notices that people have grown desensitized to them and don't even notice them, because more than half the time, notices are just random things people couldn't care about.

It's like ads. Someone may see the ad, but couldn't tell you what it is for or what is it about, because they were not paying attention.

For myself, I'll go into the grocery store, and if you told me to get X brand soup, I'll blindly look at the soups, as I struggle to find X.

    Alex Jones is an asshole.

    The man for years has spread misinformation, hate, and sexism as both a pastime and a career. And one of the worst things he did, was wrongfully target all the survivors and their family, of Sandy Hook, claiming they were liars and actors, while making millions doing so.

    Then this moron, tried to not show up for court, and when found guilts, moved all his funds in various ways, and claimed bankruptcy, while still living like a million, to avoid paying

    Fuck you, A.J.

    Linux_Is_Best,
    @Linux_Is_Best@mstdn.social avatar

    Alex Jones is prime example, much like, Donald Trump, of what is wrong with our justice system.

    If you, or I, did not show up for court, we wouldn't be walking around without spending time in jail. If you, or I, refused to pay the fine, we would be locked up, and if needed, our property and finances would have been liquidated years ago

    But in America, if you're wealthy, famous, or political, our justice system works a lot differently

    Justice in America is not blind or equal

    Politics are basically impossible to casually understand these days. You hear about a bill with a name like "Family Safety and Child Education Act" and it bans prenatal care while funding genocide in Africa or something.

    Linux_Is_Best,
    @Linux_Is_Best@mstdn.social avatar

    @annika

    It's propaganda with a play on words.

    How much of a jerk do you imagine you sound to someone who doesn't know the details of the law, when you say:

    "I am against the Family Safety and Child Education Act."

    It's perfect to easily capitalize on the ignorance of others. That is the goal and why these bills are named the way they are.

    Gnome users remind me of a cult.

    "Is the website not loading right?

    Well, it must be a KDE, Budgie, Lxqt, or Cinnamon issue, you should install Gnome."

    🙄

    Gnome is not the be all, above all, to fix all. But their user base is so overbearing and sometimes toxic, that as soon as they learn someone is not using Gnome, they point to that as the possible cause.

    I'm not joking, by the way, they'll even claim a 3rd party web issue on not using Gnome. 🙄

    Linux_Is_Best,
    @Linux_Is_Best@mstdn.social avatar

    @matzipan

    No, I'm not. Gnome users will tell you to use Gnome for everything. If my view seems vague, it is because the issue I am talking about (Gnome's cult of personality) is far and wide.

    "Is the website not working? Gnome can fix that." 🙄

    "Is your printer not working? Try Gnome" 🙄

    "Is there a problem with your display? Gnome can fix that" 🙄

    The many Gnome users will claim somehow everything is always solved by Gnome or the problem is you're not using Gnome, for nearly everything 🤦
