Question : Do you know how Norwegians fill out their tax returns?
Answer : They don´t.

This is an oversimplification, but years ago Norwegians started to get pre-filled tax returns in the mail. Later they stopped getting them, but instead had to do an OK online. Now even that is not needed. No comment means it is is OK. You can rectify and modify details online, if needed.

The reality is that the government already had most of the data needed for most individuals. Your salary is reported by the company you work for. Your bank details, including anything you have in your accounts, any loans, stocks, bonds, etc., is reported as well. Your kids are known as well. There might be details to add, but most is known. Why waste people´s time filling out details that are already known and risk people making mistakes?

When will the US get there?

acute_distress,

@jon like proper health care, this is something most of the rest of the world does unlike US

This is a great write-up from Melissa. It asks some great questions and makes you think about if we are doing enough to prove theory/practical knowledge of drivers.

My wife, Sam, was hit in a similar manner by a firefighter turning into a fire station in Hamilton (fortunately, not in the fire truck but a ute!). Similar "excuse-isms" were used, including the suggestion that her hi-vis vest actually decreased the visibility.

acute_distress,

@simon2k6 I was involved in a motorcycle accident and the police person told me careless driving causing injury can result in a $1500 fine and a year in prison. Bit different to a $130 slap on the wrist.

If you're unsure where the "AGI" crew rest their foundations👇

"Richard Lynn who claims that “racial homogeneity” is necessary for the survival of “European civilization” & has called for “phasing out” the global black population, describes Linda Gottfredson as a brave scholar who has “broken ranks by recognizing the importance of intelligence in job performance and the significance of racial differences in intelligence.”

acute_distress,

@timnitGebru WTF did I just read. What’s the AGI connection?

What's extra funny here is that, not only was Musk's compensation package 250x the norm and 33x his prior package, but he and Tesla's board made no attempt to avoid a challenge exactly like this. Literally no effort at a fair negotiation. They walked into this.

Delaware Chancery Court Opinion here: https://courts.delaware.gov/Opinions/Download.aspx?id=359340

acute_distress,

@sepfeiffer @maxkennerly you have a dodgy board. The board has previously had to give money back when shareholders threatened to sue.

Previously I thought David Seymour was a bit of a fuckwit, but it’s become clear that he’s an absolute shit stain on humanity.

acute_distress,

@emovulcan @thomasfuchs I get where you’re coming from but that wasn’t a good analogy

acute_distress,

@emovulcan @thomasfuchs What these models do isn't stealing or even copyright infringement. They aren't reselling the same content. Just because you can "trick" the model into returning the original doesn't mean the model has a copy of it. They could be considered derivative works. They definitely are breaking non-commercial attribution required licenses

acute_distress,

@scottmiller42 @emovulcan do you have to be such an ass?

Since Bill Ackman and his followers have so many questions about how Wikipedia works now that his wife has been accused of plagiarizing from it, I figured I'd help him out.

acute_distress,

@molly0xfff why is it when conservatives go on a crusade against something it is 100% guaranteed it’s something they do themselves? Someone should research this. Maybe write a Wikipedia article about it.

Apple has spent untold millions developing 3D goggles when they could have been working on this.

A machine that looks like a photocopier, labeled "copycat". Man puts one kitten in, and five kittens come out.

Bezos and Musk have it deeply wrong.
The problem isn't that we need a trillion people to have more Einsteins or Mozarts.

The problem is we don't nurture and protect the ones we have.

Stephen Jay Gould wrote: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops".

All this talk about "Substackers Against Nazis" seems a bit pointless. Substack has had long enough to do something about it. At this point you can only assume they are Nazis. How about we start talking about "Get off Substack"

HAs anyone heard of Tuatahi Fibre? They visited my parents and said they are going to install fibre and disconnect their copper as if they have no choice.

acute_distress,

@JimmyKip I thought Chorus owns the fibre network and does all the install. Have I mis-understood?
