I'd like a change to robots.txt that instructs not-mentioned robots to visit a special page to accept terms and conditions for scraping the site.

Broadcom ported my profile over from VMWare, and doesn't know how to handle my name now so I can't sign the download agreement. It also doesn't give me a way to edit my name, either 😛

I tried the support chat, and got an error instead.

What a shitshow.

@stroughtonsmith None of my entitlements are showing up. I don't have a Site ID and can't generate one because VMWare Fusion isn't an accepted product in the form to supply a product serial number.

alexr,
@alexr@mastodon.online avatar

@stroughtonsmith So there's no way to download old versions of Fusion anymore?

Bought a grill replacement part from Amazon. Advertised as 16 gauge (1.6mm). Actual item measures 20 gauge (0.9mm).

Just disrespectful of everybody's time to have to return this fraudulent item.

alexr,
@alexr@mastodon.online avatar

And the replacement part is not non-magnetic stainless steel as advertised. It's very magnetic, either coated with a shiny coating or is ferritic stainless, which isn't fit for purpose.

Seems well past time for regulators to step in and get Amazon's participation in so much petty fraud under control.

Choosing a travel backpack is really hard, and I still haven't found one I love, so mostly for my own reference I wrote a long post with thoughts on pretty much every travel backpack out there https://christianselig.com/2024/04/choosing-a-backpack-is-hard/

If you have other recommendations gimme

alexr,
@alexr@mastodon.online avatar

@christianselig I don't use a pack every day, but when I needed one, I was able to walk into the Aer store here in SF and discover that the Travel Pack 3 can fit the Apple Vision Pro Travel Case in the main compartment.

I got the Aer in the X-Pac version, which alleviates your concern about interior visibility with high-viz orange.

    Fucking typical. All the FB/Messenger/Instagram apps now have a “Meta AI” feature front and center, with a distracting animated logo.

    I asked it how to disable it and it hallucinated an UX workflow that doesn’t exist. It also said that Meta employees are“just doing their jobs.”

    There is an interesting article titled "Please Don’t Share Our Links on Mastodon: Here’s Why!" about the startling load that Mastodon's mass-distributed link preview generation has on small independent webservers. But I cannot link it to you, because of a reason

    alexr,
    @alexr@mastodon.online avatar

    @mcc Isn't this pretty much an ideal use of the Torrent protocol? Map all the link preview resources into a CAS and then pull the bits from random other federation sites instead of the source site. At most, upgrade the protocol with a new hash since SHA-1 has been collided.

    alexr,
    @alexr@mastodon.online avatar

    @mcc The initial hash list would have to come with the first referencing post. Unless somebody better at math could make a proof of how many sites would have to agree on hashes for something to be considered extremely likely to be authentic, without resorting to any sort of overly complex computation like blockchain.

    I don't use my iCloud address. A lot of idiots mistake it for theirs.

    Bank of America did not validate the email address before associating it with another person's bank account. I regularly get private banking emails for that person. I've tried over the last two years to contact BoA Customer Service, Fraud, and the suggested abuse@ email address. I've CCed various managers that work in IT there. At this point I can't tell if it's incompetence or malice that they can't stop emailing me.

    No FedEx, my package is not scheduled for delivery tomorrow. You just changed it to tomorrow last night when you realized it wasn’t going to get here on time today. Gaslighting is the worst form of customer service.

    @penryu Only really happens with FedEx Ground, which should be avoided.

    Today, we’re launching a new campaign to make the Wiggle–San Francisco’s premier east/west bike artery–safer for all. If you want to see the city install safe pedestrian and bike infrastructure like it, use this 1 click link to send an email to SFMTA- http://tinyurl.com/SSRwiggle/

    The Wiggle connects the Mission and SOMA to Haight-Ashbury and the entire west side. Everyone who bikes in SF relies on it, and yet with just two exceptions, every part prioritizes cars over bikes and pedestrians.

    alexr,

    @SafeStreetRebel @mogul Using the SFMTA logo in an unapproved way may be a crime.

    I want “From the Earth to the Moon” but about the Soviet space program. I want dramatized reality, not the alternative fiction of “For All Mankind.” Their program had to be as fascinating as ours was, full of successes and failures worth looking deeper at.

    @schwa I especially enjoyed the corporate training at Sony where they used game characters like Kratos in their silly scenarios.

    Bro, Kratos would have just straight-up beheaded Barb from Accounting and then fucked her neck.
