Found a really large disposable #vape in the grass. It seems to allow one of 4 flavours to be selected. But it is still a single-use device. There is no USB-C port for recharging the battery.
#ewaste #ecigarrette

Single use disposable vape about the size of a hair spray can and coloured orange brown, with a choice of 4 flavours. You select the flavour by rotating the base and the mouth piece.

In other news, I finally managed to replace the hideous modern IKEA lamp in my lab that was left by the previous tenants with something more period correct (a ceiling lamp that Iโ€™ve owned since some time in the early nineties). Itโ€™s showing some signs of wear from long term use in previous apartments I lived in (plus some yellowing that I didnโ€™t bother to remove) and I love it. Lamp nostalgia. ๐Ÿ˜…

We have 30 years of training data in which recruiters have been asking for 5+ years experience in technologies less than 3 years old.
I still remember the 1990s recruitment ads for Java programmers.

I wouldn't be surprised that HR are using ChatGPT to write the job openings.

The transit speed suggests it would have to be at a higher orbit and significantly larger than the ISS.

Or possibly it's a weather balloon floating by in the wind. What are the chances?

Twice in the past week I've read scholars who should know better repeat the urban legend that the QWERTY keyboard was designed to slow down typing, and thus, jamming, on early typewriters.

That'd be cool if it were true, but it's not, and the the truth is even cooler. The QWERTY keyboard evolved over time, shaped by two forces: (1) since the early machines were used by telegraph operators, the keys were arranged to avoid common transcription errors; and (2) competing patents of the typewriter slightly arranged the keyboard layout in order to qualify as new (and therefore patentable) designs.

Check out this research for more: https://repository.kulib.kyoto-u.ac.jp/dspace/bitstream/2433/139379/1/42_161.pdf

German physicist and musician Ernst Chladni died #OTD in 1827.

His most important work, for which he is sometimes labeled as the father of acoustics, included research on vibrating plates (the so-known Chladni figures or Chladni patterns) and the calculation of the speed of sound for different gases. He also undertook pioneering work in the study of meteorites and is regarded by some as the father of meteoritics.

Well @#$&!!! My bot blew up again during testing. ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก This time I managed to turn off the power before the LiPo caught fire. Looks like one of the drive motor ESCs blew (hard) taking the receiver with it. The LiPo took a bit of damage but appears to be a bystander. Now I'm not sure if I'm going to have a functioning robot by Thursday. I have (different) backup parts arriving tomorrow, so if I can jury-rig something there is a shot, but I don't know... UGH...

Had to replace the factory car radio 6-CD changer in my car with a different radio (had a USB port for thumb drive) because it was draining the battery flat when parked for just a couple of days. Wondering what to do with the it. Maybe use it in the living room to play CDs or as an audio amplifier for an MP3 module or ESP32 Internet radio?

The tiny 400mAh in this cheap turned into a puffed up pillow. I've replaced it with a 350mAh one I salvaged from a single-use disposable device. In spite of the lower capacity, it is significantly larger than the original battery. Hope it can still fit in the available space.

Also fitted a JST connector to the speaker wires in case I need to disassemble again for a future .
