Me, feeding 2 people and 2 cats on a 60k EUR salary without benefits (because technically self-employed), reading those comments that claim a 501(c)(3) is some kind of nefarious scheme to hide money š
@chriswho@QueenieBeanie@Gargron Itās not a strawman. People donāt want him to get paid. They donāt donate enough and anytime earning money comes up people scream ācapitalismā The world doesnāt run on free despite what this place likes to act like. A lot of people that came to fedi are also serial harassers that got kicked off of Big Social
I'm almost tempted to go to Mastodon's GitHub repository and submit a feature request for an instance type allowlist/blocklist. The blocklist would exclude all instances of a certain type (project). The allowlist would only allow such.
I'd explicitly state that the allowlist would make it possible to defederate everything that isn't Mastodon.
@jupiter_rowland@jrp I donāt even think itās them. Itās the early Mastodon users. Those that wanted harm to come to Ryan for daring to bridge Bluesky to Mastodon. Those falsely stating they only consented to Mastodon and ActivityPub, failing to realise thereās 14-17 bridges and protocols that make up the Fediverse.
Can someone tell me why and how they view instances as a #community ? What makes them communities? I see people upset at #Bluesky empowering individuals/users why is that problematic? #Askfedi#fediverse
@BeAware I understand that but that doesnāt mean that have to be communities. Iām just weary of situations that resemble Big Social but because people can use a different instance and or platform (which is a huge difference) people act as if the behaviour and most of the dynamics arenāt similar
Yeah, I often find the āreasoningā to be lacking, nonsensical and often hypocritical. People feel fedi is somehow best suited for communities, I donāt see how.
A few influencers, active both on the āregularā Fediverse and Threads, have noted that having a Threads account hasnāt given them a bigger audience even though Threads has a bigger userbase than (for example) Mastodon.
Quite the opposite. Thereās more visibility here. People are more likely to interact with your posts. Itās easier to gain followers as well.
None of this surprises me. Thereās always been two types of people who build content for social media: those who engage with people, and those who game algorithms.
I do believe thereās a need for algorithmic choice in fedi. Not just āalgorithms badā ā you are your own algorithmā Iām working on a blogpost but in short people like content thatās curated for them. Also, safety. Algorithms are tuned to also avoid a lot of the illegal content.
@atomicpoet Yes, Sora does algorithms very well. Memory will use a similar model but more user driven. I agree with your point about gaming the system bur I believe those people that attempt to do that on fedi would be blocked far and wide. Plus, of thereās algorithmic choice itās not like everyone would come into contact with that persons posts
@thisismissem@usagi@deadsuperhero@dansup Iād say it is not entirely out of scope and one that would benefit admins/mods and devs. A user needs assessment would be great!
I can't wait to not be effected AT ALL by whatever Meta decides to do with Threads Federation...
It just won't effect me or the way I use Fedi one bit.
Let them adopt Fedi features and then turn off federation....who cares? It'll be their loss...š¤·āāļøI'll federate till they give me a reason not to. And when they do, it won't bother nor effect me in any way.
That's the beauty of Fedi. Them federating or not changes nothing about how I use Fedi.
@Prainbow Thatās not true. Itās only inclusion for mostly white people and those that are left and centre left leaning. Go do research and speak to Black and Brown folk harmed by Mastodon. It wasnāt so welcoming and inclusive for them
One thing I'd really love to see as a feature for most #Fediverse platforms: auto-boost specific accounts.
It would be great if my general social account automatically shared Pixelfed pictures and PeerTube videos and Funkwhale music and WordPress blog posts automatically.
I know Hubzilla and probably Streams have that. It's a good feature.
Okay #Fediverse. This whole fiasco with letās just keep the name disclosed, that chooses to kick instances out that choose not to defederated with Threads is getting to me.
So myself and @cliffwade are making a list on our Wiki of instance that both federate and defederate from Threads. We feel people so have the choice themselves and not have someone else choose for them.
