So after me nagging him for a year or more @mathsppblog has finally seen the light regarding Mastodon! (Unlikely because of me, but I’ll take the win).

He’s not tooted yet, but if is your thing I highly recommend you follow my fellow ex- developer and one of the 67%.

He sometimes does some maths stuff too I believe. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve just released v0.14.0 of Tinboard, my client for the . This release adds the start of an application settings dialog, with the first couple of options letting you set the default value for the "private" and “read-later" state of new bookmarks.

The Apple leaker wanted to destroy Journal because he didn’t like the app.

I love that app, have been journaling almost non-stop since November 27.

I have journaled in assorted places: notebooks, my own pgp-files, google docs, notes, DayOne.

Journal is my new favorite.

davep,
@davep@fosstodon.org avatar

@Migueldeicaza I really want to like Journal, and do drop very brief entries in it every day, but I can’t see me dropping Journey for long-form daily journal entries until Journal is on the Mac and iPad and also has really straightforward export options. It’s worryingly walled off at the moment, even within the Apple ecosystem.

I really wish they’d launched it as a more comprehensive journaling platform.

So it seems that the ’s doors have a propensity to gape open because the screws that hold the door striker to the body are improperly torqued and this chews up the car body so badly that they can no longer be torqued back down.

I love how one xitter user’s suggestion is to use gaffer tape to hold the striker in place. I’m sure that works great in a collision, but hey, no panel gaps, right?

I was excited and nervous for Netflix's 3 Body Problem. I loved the book (still need to read the series). I have watched the first couple episodes and it has been pretty good. The setting and characters were made more western centric instead of Chinese, which is a bit disappointing but I understand that a lot of people don't want to read subtitles. They nailed the opening scene though! What does think?

davep,
@davep@fosstodon.org avatar

@shom So far for me (3 episodes in) the show fixes everything I disliked about the books. The characters feel like genuine people, not empty plot bots. (To my taste) The books are great for the overarching concept but infuriating at the character level.

Genuinely feeling this might be a time when an adaptation is far superior to the source material.

This is a demo of @davep's textual-plotext running as a Jupyter widget inside jpterm.
Widgets refresh when resizing so you can get an arbitrary resolution, inside the limits of the terminal.
Widgets accept any Textual application, so you can write them directly in Python 🚀

I've no idea what got me thinking about this today, but one of the biggest, most beneficial changes in habits of people in the UK has to have been when smoking in indoor places was banned, particularly pubs.

I remember evenings at the pub in Hampshire, coming home and virtually ridding myself of all my clothing at the front door in order to keep the disgusting smell of cigarette smoke outside the house. The pub was such a community hub, but you paid the price in stinking 2nd hand smoke.

davep,
@davep@fosstodon.org avatar

@HelenLockhart 100% agreement. It was also instrumental to me finally properly quitting. Pretty much every previous attempt to quit was nuked by a boozy night in a pub. Not being allowed to smoke in the pub removed that final temptation.

@yoz Remember, when someone says “language evolves”: that suggests the need for a fitness landscape and selection pressure. It’s okay to select against the change. 😏
