In theoretical , the high logistical efficiency of monopolies does not become a problem, because a new startup can always come with a new innovative technique, compete with prices and refuse to sell to the sluggish juggernaut.

But real-world market economies have regulatory capture & all other kinds of abuse of power.

And in real-world political systems monopolies bankroll policians to keep telling the story of theoretical markets, watching their power & money expand further.

@eff Age verification can be implemented in a way that doesn’t have to leak personal details to the state.

It can be implemented by a private company, the state need only establish the protocols of trust.

But i’m agfraid that if we don’t set age verification up in a way that respects privacy now, mental health for kids addicted to online content will deteriorate so fast in the coming years that a quick & decisive action will come.

And they won’t be asking questions that time.

Human DNA has not changed, and perhaps it is us liberals who are the biggest fools: We use our vision of a more fair and just future to drive development towards it.

Yet, that narrative we spin to actually change things (yes, that’s how it works) also gets us

We forget our postmodern lens -not applying it to ourselves- and miss that enough people will still jump on to lynches and book burnings

We wanted to continue trading with Russia for the cheap gas & oil. Holding that illusion was crucial for engaging in it.

Those who want the war to end quickly so they could continue trading are the most likely to support this illusion.

Germany, for one, really wants to take the blue pill..

But now that he finally resorted to lying, it’s very clear he hasn’t been arguing anything related to facts for a while, nor engaged in a discussion about them.

He, and so many more like him are arguing a NARRATIVE.

This might be why is so furiously discredited by those in power. By recognising the power of narrative to yield real-world power, things can be seen in new light. It’s a threat.

Facts? Non-scientist generally don’t think about facts. They think about narratives.
