When you get to choose a programming language for your projects, does its performance/efficiency really matters to you, or do you have more important priorities? Asking for a 408 Request Timeout.

@gregorni @array i donโ€™t think it works that way. GUI programs require a good support for concurrency, for user interaction. CLI tools can also be written in non performing languages like Ruby (brew for instance), Python or JavaScript (npm, yarn).
High performance languages like C++ have been used for GUI with the help of QT, but also for both light and heavy use on CLI tools.
Web servers though scale better on those with a good concurrent model, like Erlang/Elixir.

@gregorni @array actually most GUI does need concurrency. You wouldnโ€™t be able to receive songs recommendations while typing a songโ€™s name on the search bar, for instance, without concurrency.
The same happens when you scroll the thread in a social while receive updates on trends or messages.
Actually, UI frameworks like Swing in Java have every UI components as a runnable so one doesnโ€™t interfere with anotherโ€™s execution once thereโ€™s no way to guarantee an userโ€™s action will cause a long processing and the whole UI would have to wait that to respond to othersโ€™.

@gregorni @array yes, totally. The point is the one back to the poll, programโ€™s performance is not always the goal on industry. C++ projectsโ€™ tend to take more time than Rubyโ€™s or Pythonโ€™s, and itโ€™s more difficult to find good developers.
Erlang is an extraordinary functional language with one of the best concurrency models, itโ€™s highly scalable and fault tolerant, but has a terrible syntax, and itโ€™s difficult to find developers too.
Anyway, unless itโ€™s a very specific program that requires heavy computing, like image processing, rendering, logistics, games, etc, which the best is to go with C/C++, the other languages can do pretty good too.
