Though not serving as Trump’s attorney when he appeared as a witness today in Trump’s trial for criminally falsifying business records, Robert Costello is a lawyer, bound by New York’s Rules of Professional Conduct. Costello repeatedly showed his ethical unfitness, violating the most basic principles that inform the entire code. I’ve screenshot the very first paragraph of the entire code, highlighting the most pertinent phrases. 1/

I’ve noted before how Trump himself is treating the trial as an attempt to belittle and weaken judicial institutions as a whole, part of his ongoing attack on . Costello’s performance today was part and parcel of this tactic. For a lawyer to be complicit in such a project is utterly reprehensible. 2/

Costello, who clearly seeks to curry Trump’s favor, behaved like any lawyer embedded in organized crime: rather than uphold the quality of justice, he used his knowledge of the law to subvert justice and undermine the legal system. 3/

The biggest indication that Trump and the Republican Party have normalized the possibility of criminal activity by the President is how rarely coverage of Trump’s current trial for criminally falsifying records to cover up campaign expenditures tops newspaper websites.

@foser 💯 I could not believe his comment about Alito most likely not knowing the significance of the upside down flag in January 2020. But then again he has consistently said insupportable things about Supreme Court Justices’ conduct.

I sympathize with Judge Merchan, who I believe has refrained from jailing Trump to avoid allowing Trump to play the victim and raise money off of that. I also think Merchan probably doesn’t want to interrupt the trial for hearings over whether Trump is causing his sycophantic Republican electeds to say things that violate the gag order. This is part of a concerted effort to weaken any court that tries to hold Trump and the Republican Party to rule of law, in preparation for using the courts to claim victory in November, regardless of the actual ballot counts. 2/

I’m freshly appalled by Trump’s efforts to protect his 2016 election campaign by shadily paying Stormy Daniels in a way Trump hoped wouldn’t be traced back to him. I’m newly appalled by the cast of Republican electeds who come to the courthouse to violate the spirit of the gag order Trump himself is under. They present themselves as mouthpieces for Trump and make all manner of remarks that, if he made them himself, would be violations of the order. The Republicans are a lawless cult. #LawFedi

@lolgop I happily donated, just now. I agree with you about the importance of #Arizona to the country as a whole. And, now that I live in #NewMexico, I have a more personal reason to want to see the Arizona legislature flipped blue.
