Hi everyone who is new: high functioning depressed person with PTSD here.
I don't hide this.
I just got tired of pretending.

jackcole,
@jackcole@mstdn.social avatar

@Brandi_Buchman People don't pretend to be depressed. They pretend to be ok. Grappling with depression isn't easy, but the trite expression that recognizing the problem is the first and most important step on the way out of depression. You're on your way.

I don't feel like getting yelled at on X but I just want to say: I'm glad the economy seems to be doing well for so many but I am drowning out here and every person I know is holding onto their pennies because everything is so expensive and they are afraid it will get worse. But if you say that, you're against Joe Biden or democracy.
Just quietly suffering fucking sucks.
And I know I'm not alone!!!!

⚠️ I am aware there are still issues with mstdn.social and I'm still working on fixing it all❤️

Everything should work as intended except sometimes things could be a little slow :sad_cat:

I've been in talks with the devs for some days to try and solve this issue and we'll keep going until it's fixed

All I ask is a little understanding and patience :cat_hug_triangle: I'll be posting less since I'm working on this from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep again but do know I'm working on it!

Among the advice I've picked up as a plaintiff's lawyer: don't get into a helicopter unless you have to.

In the U.S., the 2020-2024 accident rate is 3.81 per 100K hours flown. Fatal accident rate is 0.65. Every three weeks or so, there's another fatal accident.

https://rotormedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/USHST-Safety-Report-5-2024-1.pdf

jackcole,
@jackcole@mstdn.social avatar

@maxkennerly The cause of fatalities in helicopter accidents is well known: civilian helicopters have fuel tanks overhead that rupture on impact and douse occupants who are then incinerated. The fix? Rupture-proof tanks as the military uses. But FAA will not force industry to do it. Yes, stay out of civilian helicopters.

So much of Musk's "visionary leadership" is classic mismanagement. He's not just nuking the one area in which he Tesla can lock-in market dominance (the EV chargers), he's doing it in the most chaotic manner possible, without any plan for going forward. https://electrek.co/2024/05/03/read-the-wild-email-tesla-is-sending-to-suppliers-amid-supercharger-chaos/

More than 100,000 immigrants from the DACA program will soon become eligible to receive federal health care coverage for the first time since DACA was implemented over a decade ago.

DACA beneficiaries had been barred from federally funded health insurance despite contributing billions in federal taxes to the nation’s federal health insurance system for years. Excellent news.

DACA recipients will be eligible for federal health care coverage under new Biden rule-

    1928 — Charles Adler Jr. developed a sonically actuated traffic light. To operate it, drivers pulled up to a red light and honked their horns to make the light change. Installed in Baltimore, it was the first actuated traffic signal in the United States and served as the basis for modern traffic signals.

    @maxkennerly This gift link isn't the same as for NYT or WaPo. Bloomberg requires registration of the reader, even if free. Having not read the B article, it is easy to see why auto insurance is and will be higher: body shops are already past their limits as are insurance adjusters. People buy vehicles with the name "Gladiator" (a Jeep model) not because they want simple economic transportation. If Romans took out insurance on real Gladiators, but it would not have been cheap.

    One neat trick to fight inflation is to stop having such car-centric policies.

    Feb-Mar inflation / year-over-year inflation
    Motor vehicle repair 3.1% / 11.6%
    Motor vehicle insurance 2.6% / 22.2%
    Intracity mass transit 0.0% / 2.0%

    One telling aspect of the targeted drone strike on World Central Kitchen is how, as Israel approaches its 200th kill of a humanitarian worker, neither Netanyahu nor the IDF even pretends there will be consequences for the soldiers or changes in policy.

    Because it is the policy.

    jackcole,
    @jackcole@mstdn.social avatar

    @maxkennerly If the IDF has any command and control, coordination with IDF would have prevented the attack on WCK. This says either it is policy to attack aid workers or IDF has no command and control. Either is unacceptable.

    maxkennerly, to random
    @maxkennerly@mstdn.social avatar

    Like the three unarmed hostages waving a white flag and countless other incidents, it's impossible to reconcile this with any reasonable rules of engagement. These were branded vehicles traveling in a deconflicted zone and they had coordinated their movements with the IDF.

    @jrconlin It doesn't show everything with a stamp if you include franked envelopes. USPS started scanning during the anthrax scare(s), so they do not scan trusted mail from U.S. Government, and some other mail. And some attackers will sign up for Informed Delivery for your address using a name that does or might have received mail there. In addition to you signing up, others at your address should, too. Despite that. it is useful.

    Trump and followers have used the same pattern to diminish what was said:

    he didn't say that.

    and if he did, he didn't mean that.

    and if he did, you didn't understand that.

    and if you did, it's not a big deal.

    and if it is, others have said worse.
