Wow, file this under "Top ten most Chicken-shit lawsuits in the history of Tech:"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_v._International_Business_Machines_Corp.

> Daniel Wallace, a United States citizen, sued the Free Software Foundation (FSF) for price fixing. In a later lawsuit, he unsuccessfully sued IBM, Novell, and Red Hat. Wallace claimed that free Linux prevented him from making a profit from selling his own operating system

Just- just wow. Microsoft, SCO, is that you?

So today I decided to turn down my laptop's screen resolution to make fonts a little bigger to match those in my large external monitor. I wondered if the experience would be negatively impacted by it.

Turns out it was the best decision I could have taken. I can read everything in both screens now, and probably will keep it this way even without the external screen. Not everything needs to be tiny.

Ayy looks like borked in unstable (silently, too. No apt warnings). I now can't validate the signatures of the packages anymore which means apt upgrade stopped working. Oops? :devuannew: :blobfoxpat:

that @JasonPunyon curated and compiled a whopping archive of answers from and assorted Q&A sites in a minimal sqlite format, where they can be downloaded and analyzed offline:

Amazing effort and great idea. Reminded me of the archives that kept of it (alongside Wikipedia and similar projects), but more streamlined and cross-platform. Nice.

Using in a Corporate Laptop for work

Longish post that I've been meaning to post for a few weeks now. I tried to run only for work for a month and the result was amazing. Here's a few tips on how I did it in case you want to try it too.

Needless to say, I have zero intentions on going back. Long live Free Software: Liberate your Hardware today!

Decided to play around with again. But this time I beefed it up considerably. Basically built a mini-Debian stable install on top of with debootstrap and started installing some internet-facing utilities on it.

Got to the point where I'm running chrooted firefox, which works pretty transparently, except I get no sound (yet). What could I try next?

Warning: broken - again - in latest unstable [ | ]

Well, let's just say it's a small price to pay for the unclogging of the previous 200+ held back packages. Good thing we have https://snapshot.debian.org/ to "roll back" a little!

Looks like doing one apt full-upgrade to one of my Ceres (unstable) machines safely "unclogged" the 200+ packages that had been held back for 2 months now with no apparent breakage anywhere else.

Guess it can be a useful trick (after analyzing carefully what in fact is being updated) despite my usual advice not to do it:

In 2024, with many distributions having decided to end their 32-bit support, playing 2000s' proprietary games through on Linux is suddenly not so straightforward anymore.

This vacation I had an opportunity to re-trace the steps and show how this is done again:

This is weird, I am pretty sure that previously I blocked the entire threads . net domain from the web interface of Mastodon months ago, but was able to open and browse through one of its profiles just a few hours ago on mobile (fedilab). Is this how domain-blocking behavior is supposed to work - they can't see you but you can see them?

I swear, using 's standard UI copy and paste into USB drives is infuriatingly slow. Frustrating to see the dialog file get stuck at 99% for many minutes when the copying took 30 seconds to complete.

Just open a terminal and run instead!

Attention Sid users: latest package (v. 123.0.6312.58-1) update is broken. Lots of pages crashing, some load fine for a minute or so, then freeze. Impossible to work on O365 on it. Holding on to your current version is highly advised (until at least this passes!)

I wish to install to try it out over plain apt in Unstable, but the package has broken dependencies (libapt-pkg6.0t64 missing) :(

I successfully installed it in , though. It seems slower when doing large updates, but everyone tells me it's the better way to do so instead of apt. Thoughts?

Funny enough, I decided to just say "fuck it" to my employer's wish and started to use Linux exclusively at work last week. Absolutely zero issues with it, and both my machine has been performing faster and I save much more battery along the day.

is more than ready for the corporate world.

Sharing culture is more than caring; it's duty.
