This is not a software glitch, it's the Y1C problem: old mainframes were so storage-constrained that they only allocated two decimal digits for passenger age, and adding another digit would mean rewriting software that in some cases has been in use and constantly patched since the late 1950s.

I don't hire a proofreader because I don't monetize. I feel like I should get double pay for today's blog post, but 2 x zero = zero 😂

Also I tend to discuss ideas here first because I get so many smart and interesting responses.

Yesterday I had one person say I'm too so pro-tech pro-capitalist and one person say I was trying to force a leftist ideology, and both were responding to A City on Mars. All I can say is I wish people would stop trying to find the hidden motive and just read the words as plainly written!

Something I've been noticing about search engines (well, google) recently is how bad they are at respecting word order in cases where it matters. Like, you search "convert x to y" and they match "convert y to x". Or this morning I'm searching "inset diamond in square equation" and i am indeed finding overwhelmingly things that contain both the words "diamond" and "equation", such as the "diamond method" for quadratics. But nothing related to insetting diamonds in squares.

if ms-dos is being opensourced, there are a shitload of MRI machines and other ancient craps out there that desperately need an update, and its possible that whatever dusty ancient nonsense code they're running can run on the "new" ms-dos variants.

its kinda bonkers to think, but this could potentially be very good for security of embedded and medical devices
