@AnarchoCatgirlism Statistically speaking, this means you can lick most things. Good to know.

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@uint8_t @AnarchoCatgirlism you can lick all things at least once 😂

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@uint8_t @AnarchoCatgirlism Theoretically I guess, if you can get your hands on it. 😁
Same with any gases. I mean, can you lick a gas?

I am begging people to stop blogging with substack (email bookclubs aside).

every time I click a link it bothers me TWICE to sign in. TWO different pop-ups. I am not accessing these illicitly (well maybe #Substack thinks so) these are not subscriber only articles. I just want to read the article you are sharing that proves your point.

Get a blog (not wordpress though) with an RSS feed. Or at least use a less obnoxious service. No, medium is NOT less obnoxious.
I beg you.

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@fistfulofdave @lapis I doubt there is such a thing. Self hosted is fine though. Same here, I love how low maintenance WP is these days. Everything auto-updates.

Have you ever thought about blogging anonymously? I blog under my real name, but wonder if that could have held me back...

https://kevquirk.com/what-about-anonymous-blogging

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@kev Whois privacy is a must though imo, even if you are using your real name. You don't want them to just get your address that easily, right?
The same goes for future employers. When they search for my name, they will find a nice LinkedIn profile, but that's about it.
My domain registrar knows who I am, but that's OK. My life doesn't depend on it, and I kind of trust them. Besides, I have their address too. 😁

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@kev There are a few reasons why I post anonymously on my blog/site.
First, it was a habit of using a pseudonym when I was a teen and started using computers. I think it was influenced by the demo scene. When I registered my domain, I used the nickname I had been using for a while on the web.
Second, I don't like the idea that any wanker could just search my name, find my blog and then stalk your ass IRL because he doesn't like something you posted (something about Linux for example).

I have finally pushed myself to start the Man in the High Castle and while the topic is heavy (definitely why I waited for so long), this is quickly becoming one of my favourite shows. A few days later, and i'm already in S4.

@Digitalyn One for the watch list it seems.
Thanks for suggesting Yellowjackets btw, it's great. 🙂

People who primarily interact with Git using its command line like the past 50 years of evolution in personal computers never happened fascinate me.

I do use it, but only for specialized use cases Fork or an IDE can’t handle.

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@chucker Same. I mainly use the CLI for specific actions, and I have to look up how to do it every time.

The greatest MMORPGs blind you to the fact that they are stealing your time and money via tedious gameplay mechanics by making you feel totally immersed in a world that's better than real life.

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@buru5 True, but that also makes it fun (to some extent).
I lost interest in No Man's Sky for example once the main story was completed. You can do anything you want in it, but without goals it just gets boring quickly.
The expeditions are fun though.

I'd love to switch my domain provider to a European or even German one. Problem is, that they charge more for .com, .net, .org domains, than in the US. Can anyone recommend a provider in the EU, that doesn't?
Note, that i need to be able to set DNS entries myself later.

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@jrp What kind of prices do you have in the US?
Just tried GoDaddy for a .net domain and it's about the same as my own Belgian provider charges.

I'm about to update my book on but as I am now mostly using , I'm a little bit outdated about plugin management. What would you recommend instead of pathogen (for vim, not for neovim)?

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@vjousse I still use Vundle. It's simple and does the job.
I thought about switching to Vim's native plugin model, but that doesn't have any way of easily updating all plugins, so that's a no-no really.

Last night I dreamed someone in the office was playing some awesome high speed super hectic breakcore on his laptop. Very Venetian Snares/Hitori Tori/Ruby My Dear style things, but something I never heard of. It's crazy your brain can just come up with completely awesome new music like that. Too bad you can't just record that somehow. 😁

KBC is one of the big Belgian banks, and they introduced a "digital currency" named Kate Coins (Kate is an assistant in their app).
So you can now earn money by doing things in the app? That's right, but you have to allow the "Advanced features" in the app, which basically means you are giving up your privacy.

Next to trying to gamify you into giving up your privacy, they are also making their basic account paid as of June, so you're basically paying for your own Kate Coins anyway.

There’s this trope in zombie movies where the outbreak is just starting to take hold and the viewer catches glimpses of news reports about the emerging threat on TVs that are unnoticed in the background.

The characters don’t know that the world is ending just yet, but the viewer has a premonition of the disaster that’s just ahead.

Anyhow, feeling a bit of this about H5N1 at the moment.

vjousse, to neovim French
@vjousse@mamot.fr avatar

What do you think folks, should I update https://vimebook.com to only or should I stick to and create separate content for ?

n3wjack,
@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@vjousse As a Vim user, I find it quite annoying that when I search for something Vim related, I find Neovim plugins or posts.
So the ideal thing for me would be that your content is available for both. Vim is not going away, but it's annoying that a lot of Vim content is being "polluted" by Neovim stuff.

If you provide both version, people can choose their favorite.
Also, it would be interesting to see which side it most popular.

@screwtape If you spend some time playing with ChatGPT you pretty soon find out that it's a very advanced auto-suggest tool, and it doesn't have a clue what it's talking about, and tend to make stuff up. How that can be a good thing for business, I don't understand. I bet it's going to be great for lawyers, though. 😁

@n3wjack@mastodon.social avatar

@screwtape No, and that doesn't make sense either 😁
