In the battle for the youth vote we now seem to have some clear blue water between the parties;

Labour is (at least at the moment) offering to lower the voting age to 16 - perhaps hoping that 18 year olds will see this as a positive move for their younger siblings?

Meanwhile the Tories are offering mandatory 'national service' at 18 to build character & experience....

Hmmm... while actually, I'm not sure the Tories idea is nuts, I can't see many 18 year olds going for it.

@ChrisMayLA6 National service plan cost is estimated to be £2.5 b per year, and armed services full of people with very little experience and little motivation to be there.

@br00t4c the data they’re referencing is from 2017, as they say there’s no data from 2918 or later. Since 2019 pedestrian warning systems have been mandatory on EVs in the UK.

Some BS (bovine fecal) AI accounts say there isn't enough land for solar.

Solar, which has fallen in price 98.7% What once cost 'dinner for two with candles and three courses,' now costs 'light bulb,' is so efficient-

How efficient is it?

Solar is so efficient, solar collectors on half the world's roofs, just on the roof, is MORE ELECTRIC ENERGY THAN WE USE, world wide.

World wide.

Build it all now, stop pouring money into the tar pit.

richardknott,
@richardknott@mastodon.social avatar

@kevinrns France has mandated all car parks over a certain size must have solar. What’s happening is companies have worked out its making them money so are adding them to car parks of smaller size. Farmers are adding solar to fields with livestock and crops, as they add shade. There’s lots of places you can stick a solar panel without needing more land

I think Toyota was right all along.

It’s an unpopular opinion among EV purists, but I think hybrids will reduce a lot more carbon emissions than BEVs, for the simple reason that way more people can switch. Even without access to charging outlets, hybrids are far more efficient thanks to their regenerative braking. With access to outlets, they are as good as EVs within their electric range, which will account for most of the daily commutes of their owners, and all with far smaller batteries and better costs of ownership than BEVs.

The way to eliminate emissions due to personal transportation is not to put people in BEVs. It’s to eliminate commutes and massively invest in (electrified) public transportation.
