From HN top-level comment:

"No real surprise. A good number of people who have grown up with the promise of the tech are pretty well disgusted by what it's turned out to deliver, which is mostly "A handful of multibillionaires treating the rest of us as sets of eyeballs to be monetized at all possible costs."

Frequently frustrations about the Browser oligopoly rear its head on and people talk on creating alternatives.

Such projects exist. Chances for success may benefit from trimmed specs.

To discuss the ideas for a , a project 1st started by @alcinnz on Codeberg, a chatroom was created:

RFC 9518 Centralization, Decentralization, and Internet Standards

> "The extreme flexibility of and its failure to provide significant standalone value allowed vendors to require use of their preferred extensions, favoring those who had more market power. Therefore, standards efforts should focus on providing concrete utility to the majority of their users as published, rather than being a "framework" where interoperability is not immediately available."

For the question of "Why use ?" has never been answered. There should be clear merits to wade through all the complexity that this choice brings, right?

Yes, its ultra flexible, and you can define your own semantic , and theoretically it could provide a robust extension mechanism to AP protocol. Except that right now it doesn't.

What's the vision of a Linked Data ? What great innovative would it bring, that makes it worthwhile?

nuclear plant will start to ditch 1 million tons of tritium-polluted water out into the sea.

> The decision comes weeks after the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), approved the discharge, saying that the radiological impact on people and the environment would be “negligible”.

Yea, right . This is just as trustworthy as concluding that the burning of has negligible effects on the earth's atmosphere.

About Megathread discussions on the Fediverse..

There are tons of valuable insights being microblogged around, available for participants & readers who happen to bump into them.

As microblogging goes they are fleety and slide towards forgetfulness and link rot as soon as posts are added.

Recording and summarizing these insights in a different medium is dilligent manual labor.

But can we even do this? Can we quote + attribute others' public toots or do we need ask consent for that?

Today's question for a resilient is whether various different initiatives are willing to collaborate and cross-pollinate, while keeping their independence.

There's great opportunity to increase the cohesion of the developer community and creating strong joins:

  1. @w3c working on improvements

  2. @fedidevs documenting existing fedi

  3. process on @Codeberg

  4. as forum

Followed-up to my 3-months old proposal for a bottom-up 3-stage Standards Process to guarantee a decentralized and open ecosystem. A process that goes:

Ecosystem -->
/ -->

https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fep-process-guaranteeing-an-open-and-decentralized-ecosystem/3602/30

This has urgency, or corporate takeover is assured!

“Any decentralized [ecosystem] requires a centralized substrate, and the more decentralized the approach is the more important it is that you can count on the underlying system.”

Saddening me time and again is seeing individualism and fragmentation in .

between projects that's so often low-hanging fruit, yet never happens. More anticipation of needs, helping each other, be stronger together. Yet it hardly shapes up to the extent that it could.

We seem to lack time to become sustainable, let alone 'win' from . No time to seek collab as we prod on alone.

There are exceptions of course, and better collab tools are becoming available.
