@radicalrobit People whose profitability is arcing downward are throwing AI at the wall hoping for more money somehow.

Sony Will Use AI to Cut Film Costs, Says CEO Tony Vinciquerra

"“We are very focused on AI. The biggest problem with making films today is the expense,” Vinciquerra said at Sony’s Thursday (Friday in Japan) investor event. “We will be looking at ways to…produce both films for theaters and television in a more efficient way, using AI primarily.”"

Wow. So I expect the quality will go way down.

@noellemitchell The studio that brought us Madame Web and Morbius thinks cost is the problem with making films.

AI is just the shitty kitchen remodel on the house that really needs to be condemned in the first place.

Get smart dog automatic throwing machine so you don't have to throw by hand for an hour to him and can try to do other things.

Teach smart dog to use it.

Realize smart dog knows how to use it, and can use it, but only wants to use it if you put the ball in for him.

@verge I wonder what it must be like to be so deranged that you say things like "Honoring our commitment to Elon demonstrates that we support his vision for Tesla and recognize his extraordinary accomplishments" with a straight face.

Just stared "Service Model" from Adrian Tchaikovsky. Best to go into it knowing nothing. It's hilarious, and not at all what I was expecting after reading some other Tchaikovsky books.

@StillIRise1963 I don't know, but there are a lot of people who want to break the system so he gets elected regardless of a vote

There is nothing quite like getting your spare tire out for the first time and discovering it doesn’t fit.

I don’t even know how that’s possible.

I mean it came with the car….

There are still places deep in the middle of Los Angeles where you can blow a tire and be in the middle of nowhere.

I am at one of those places.

Thanks to @lauren pointing it out, I'm enjoying "The Andromeda Strain" again, (free on YouTube with ads). It's one of those peak 70s sci-fi films; everyone should watch. Very 70s, but also very hard sci-fi, both in the best ways.

And once you're done watching read: https://theasc.com/articles/the-andromeda-strain-may-1971 which is a great article about all the special care taken to make the movie.

Woah.

As a UCLA student I was brought in for a test screening of Alien 3 (they got students all the time), which I thought was terrible, and I haven't watched the sequels since.

This I may watch.

@kurtsh Alien 3 was at Fox. But I saw that Jacob's Ladder showing at Ackerman too!! Man, good times, and crazy movies.

Ackerman was such a vibrant exciting place then. So much going on all day and night. Now it's all at the dorms, and the building closes down early evening!
