I can't believe I never played this game before and how good it looks with my Legion Go + eGPU setup streamed to the iPad Pro using Moonlight (after fixing my Wi-Fi issues). Pure bliss.
@viticci Did you happen to write about the WiFi issues anywhere? I’m struggling with a constant rhythmic stuttering/hitching of both video and audio in Moonlight (with all codecs) but it otherwise shows really good performance numbers
As a follow-up to this story, I completely missed that the M4 iPad Pro now supports AV1 hardware-accelerated decoding.
I turned it on, and wow – it improved a setup that was already quite impressive. My RTX 4090 sending an AV1-encoded 4K HDR stream to the M4 iPad Pro = streaming bliss.
If you have a 40-series GPU and a new iPad Pro, turn on AV1 in Moonlight immediately.
@viticci When I got the mount for the controller, magnetic circles to mimic MagSafe compatibility for Android phones was included. So, after testing the fit between the iPad and my folio without removing the tape protector, I stuck the circle directly on the back of the iPad. My ESR case that mimics the Smart Folio continues to work fine with the circle on the iPad. I stuck one on my iPad mini and the large Pro. The mini would be perfect, imo, if it wasn’t for the screen tradeoffs
A textbook case of "it works better if you turn it on" 😄
Thanks for the info though - I will be upgrading from the 2018 iPad Pro and I don't rule out the possibility that settings from this one, using the older Pencil, might well carry over in this manner.
@viticci any time I've had window-y things happen on my iPad, it's been entirely accidental, and takes me like 3 minutes to figure out how to get rid of the annoying popover or Split View. It is entirely unintuitive, IMO.
@geerlingguy@viticci You mean in “non-StageManager” mode, like when doing normal multitasking ?
I do quite like the implementation of Split View and Slide Over. Seems quite intuitive to me, once you’ve gotten used to it. It does have a little learning curve though indeed…
I see, I see. So besides using websites and now YouTube videos to train their stuff, now they also straight up copy people's likeness without their consent.
@viticci You can be almost certain that your voice and any big podcast in English language have been scrapped in the last two years, especially the ones hosted by celebrities or important voices in their field.
Pandora's box is wide open and as the Captain says : "Everything is garbage. Never love anything".
I don't know how else to describe this, but @cabel blog posts activate a specific part of my brain with a release of endorphins comparable to a Wikipedia rabbit hole, without the waste of time.
The last few days have been pretty awesome for the iOS/iPadOS videogame emulation scene between the release of Gamma (PS1), PPSSPP (PSP), and RetroArch (lots of consoles): https://www.macstories.net/news/emulator-palooza/
We also recorded a special episode of AppStories with a bit more backstory + why I continue using the iPad, despite iPadOS: https://appstories.net/episodes/383
