Discussing the threat posed by Meta #P92/#Barcelona joining the #Fediverse with some tech enthusiasts feels more and more like debating #ClimateChange with a denier.
«Look at all the data indicating that this will be a disaster. It has even happened twice already!»
Responses: «It won't happen this time» «It won't be that bad» «It's actually good if that happens» and «we can't do anything about it anyway»
Well at least now they are starting to say the quiet part loud, and unsurprisingly it's the fact that they don't actually care about open protocols and federation, and are perfectly fine with the genocidal corporate silos:

Something published today re: Meta joining the fediverse with their new project. While everyone here is engaged in heated debates about it all, this is apparently what's happening outside of this ecosystem and why they are wanting to be here:

Whether it is WhatsApp or Threads, Zuckerberg’s fight with Musk is unlikely to be straightforward. Ives says the rivals will face a “costly battle for market share as advertising growth remains under pressure”.
Yea it’s definitely an under appreciated argument I think, the “bad apple” effect a problematic platform can have.
Thought to be fair, the mastodon.art - mstdn.social drama was something we did to ourselves. Meta really shouldn’t be blamed for that. Unnecessarily destructive defederation is something the fediverse is still growing out of I think.
@maegul@laurenshof Meta wasn't directly the cause of it by their own actions, but them coming here is what has inflamed tempers across the board for many.
I'm aware this is something that has happened before for other reasons, i'm also on @jerry instance that people have blocked over CISA.
This fracturing is caused by meta but we are the ones doing their work in fracturing it. Tbh, i can't say that isn't something they anticipated.
They've been working on Project92 since January and it's to compete with Musk for ad revenue and market share. They obviously have studied us here and how things work, what will cause a divide and it suits them, even if it's not their direct intent.
Greening the trackbeds of urban transit isn't just about optics.
A carpet of grass or sedum on 2 kms of track creates 1.5 football fields' worth of green space, reducing air pollution and the urban heat island effect.
About the question of "Meta forcing their moderation rules" onto the fediverse. (which would imply no NSFW). This is not an argument to defederate from them prehentively.
(this is speculation we DO NOT KNOW what meta is planning)
My advice would be: DO NOT change your moderation rules. If meta cannot block posts that are explicitly marked as NSFW that’s THEIR fault.
And if they block you, let them block you. It tells a VERY different story to the press and observers if Meta blocks half of the fediverse because of NSFW content VS Half of the fediverse blocking Meta for no apparent reasons. (I now your reasons, but the journalists don’t)
Never stop posting NSFW. That’s one of the things that make us better than scared-of-a-single-nipple-on-artistic-photography instagram.
Imagine the story from the viewpoint of instagram users: "So you mean that there is NSFW stuff out there and meta is blocking it from me? Then I can just create a mastodon account and enjoy NSFW stuff there". VS "what a bunch of unwelcoming folks blocking Threads before it even launch"
About convincing your friend to get on the fediverse, "we have porn" is very often a pretty good argument. And if they don’t care about porn, maybe they’ll at least care about not banning every single appearance of a nipple in art.

When I was in Barcelona I was in this dimly-lit market with so many things that were (quite literally) foreign to me. It wasn’t a tourist place; it was for locals. So they had all kinds of everyday kitchen supplies. I found this wall of goods especially enjoyable to look at.
Scheinbar wird in #Barcelona eine neue #Tram gebaut. Die 3. Spur sieht mir nach einer Unterflur Stromschiene aus. Also ohne Oberleitung. Wenn ich das sehe hoffe ich, dass die Bauphase bei der @tram_kiel möglichst bald startet. Interessantes Detail, der Radweg anbei ist scheinbar als erstes fertig gestellt worden und sichert in der Bauphase die Erreichbarkeit der Geschäfte. Ein Modell für #Kiel?
@Cykelsok@tram_kiel das stimmt. Im Prinzip könnte da schon grün hinpassen, aber diese Betonwannen trocken halt schnell aus. Trotzdem schön, dass da eine Tram gebaut wird.
